The whole experience was very unpleasant and frustrating. I am very upset. They are super rigid, have no clue about what flexibility is. I applied for student visa, I can give you so many details to show you how ridiculous they are and here's one: I plan to arrive a few days early, which is reasonable isn't it? But you are not gonna believe what I'll tell you: when the officer saw my flight schedule, she told me you can only arrive on the first day of your program and you have to leave the Schengen area immediately once the program ends. ARE YOU KIDDING ME? the date of my arrival should be the exact first day of the program. SERIOUSLY? Okay officer, I think I should get a helicopter to drop me to the classroom, then let it pick me up and send me right back to New York. I wanted to go to Italy for the curiosity and passion I have about your country's culture and history. I wanted to go for the sake of love not for the sake of bomb-dropping. If embassy represents a country and this one in NY makes me feel bad about Italy because there's no future if a country is this xenophobic.

My grandmother passed away on January 3rd. These people had ONE JOB, to fill out the paperwork to clear her to be flown to Italy. They sat on this for a month!!! They even lied and blamed it on our small town (which it was not their fault). Our town even provided the proof that they sent the paperwork the day the funeral home complained for the 3rd time (three weeks in by this point!) A week later they finally picked up the phone for my aunt. When she asked when the paperwork would be completed they told her it had only been a week since they received the paperwork back from our town, and should be done soon!!! At this point even the funeral home couldn't believe this mess!! Total disregard for a family who wants to lay their mother and grandmother to rest. They should all be fired!

It’s just such a bad experience, I would give zero stars I can, horrible attitude, not patient. I’m just applying for a tourist visa. More importantly, it was $71 to apply, I give them $80 because I didn’t have change. They didn’t have change either, so they say they’ll write it down and put the money in the usps envelope, today, I got my envelope with only my passport, there’s no $9 at all. Can it be any worse? Horrible attitude also. Im surprised... This is the first comment I’ve ever write in google reviews because the experience is terribly bad.
