About

Located in New York City, Cooper Hewitt is the nation's only museum dedicated exclusively to historic and contemporary design.

Story

Cooper Hewitt, Smithsonian Design Museum is the only museum in the nation devoted exclusively to historic and contemporary design. After a three-year renovation, the museum re-opened in December 2014 with exhibitions featuring a rich mix of historic and contemporary design objects from our permanent collection, unique temporary installations, and dynamic interactive experiences. We also have an exciting calendar of events, including hands-on workshops, talks, and family programs.

Extremely interesting and very self directed. Enjoyed interactiveness of the exhibits, does a great job of highlighting design in its many forms and how much of daily life is encompassed. The building itself is incredible, would have paid the entrance fee just to walk around that piece of history. Gift shop is fun to tinker in too.

Excellent exhibits. Great interactive tables and screens. They can send information to your email at a touch of a button on wand and x in display. Fabulous place. I see a comment above about the Food! Funny who goes to a museum for the Food? I've returned 6 times with all ages of family and friends. Must see museum.

They have the coolest traveling exhibits! We had so much fun interacting with the "I Care About" design challenge, and all the museum guards had funny personalities. I loved exploring this unexpected museum.

A little pricey, but pretty interesting exhibits on design. They have a great way to capture items you've seen to save them for later, which is great. Fun place to visit while in NYC if you love Jazz, design and their history.

The museum itself is very beautiful with a nice garden and cafe that you can enjoy even without seeing the exhibitions. The collection is very interesting and made even more so with an interactive approach to everything (thanks to the pen you get with you ticket). I highly recommend it.
