The North Carolina State Parks System exists for the enjoyment, education, health, and inspiration of all our citizens and visitors.

We had a blast trekking on Crowders Mountain. Some trails are strenuous and others are more easy to tired feet.
In our crew were three kids with ages 9, 6 and 3, and they did enjoy it. We managed to hike up to the Pinnacle summit and after 2.2 miles we were tired, but it was worth the effort. 
Take a backpack with plenty of water, snacks and fruits. You can do a picnic half way and enoy the scenery. We had to do several stops due to the little ones getting too tired. Also bring some comfy shoes with good support, there are sections in the trail with roots and rocks in the ground.

Great place close to Charlotte for hiking. The trails are clean and well kept. Views from the top are great. We bring our kids and dog here several times each year. Most of the trails are easy enough that our elementary school aged kids can handle them (with frequent enough rest stops).

The Pinnacle Trail (shorter route that begins at the Visitor's Center), around 2 miles, bit difficult but the view is worth it. It took 3 hours for us (return time and rest time included). The last 1/3 of the hike is a steep climb with many rocks on the trail and requires climbing a short rock wall to get the best views of the countryside.
Make sure you carry enough water, energy drinks and some energy bars. 
Those who love scenic views, don’t miss a chance.

Love how close this is to Charlotte. It’s super dog friendly and a moderate hike. Made for a great afternoon without having to dedicate a whole day to a hike. We did the pinnacle trail. We got there about 10am on a Saturday in January and had no issues finding parking. Will definitely come back to try another trail!

Awesome for hiking, can connect multiple trails together for a hike. I ended up doing the hike to the top of pinnacle, which was pretty steep towards the end but doable. On the way back I took the turnback trail and added a part of the fern trail and lake trail to come to a total of 6 miles for the day. Pretty views once you get to the top of the pinnacle.
