It was my first snow experience ever and it was MAGICAL! It was cloudy the first time I went, so I definitely recommend checking the mountain's weather. The little cafe they have before walking to the observatory has the best vanilla coffee and the fella making it was super nice and helpful!

I started my day late (had to get an oil change) and I was only in NC for the day so I ended up driving up the summit parking lot. There's ample parking there and if it wasnt a rainy and super cloudy day in February I'm sure the views would be wonderful too. So there's the parking lot but then you still have to walk up this concrete uphill ramp for a bit to get to the actual summit. Where the parking lot is, there are picnic areas too. Also, up on the summit there are different trails you can take which again if I had the time and the weather was better, I would've gone. There is also handicap parking and accessibility which is quite nice.

1of the most spiritually awakening experiences I've enjoyed in a long time. The views are breath taking. The jaunt up to the summit is a little physically challenging but extremely worth it. If given the opportunity to experience Mount Mitchell do not pass it up!!!

Easily accessible, with paved roads and parking lots near Mount Mitchell's summit. The overlook has excellent views of the Black Mountains. To top it off, the park has free entry! You should absolutely stop by the park while on the Blue Ridge Parkway. Be sure to bring a coat, though.
