About

Fort Yargo State Park

Story

Located between Atlanta and Athens, this popular park features a 1792 log fort built by settlers for protection against Creek and Cherokee Indians. Today, visitors come to Fort Yargo for its wide variety of outdoor recreation and scenery. Mountain bikers and hikers can test their endurance on 18 miles of trails. A 260-acre lake offers a large swimming beach, fishing and boat ramps. The park’s wooded disc golf course is exceptionally challenging.

Fort Yargo State Park is a beautiful location for outdoor weddings, reunions and other celebrations. Visitors have a choice of numerous facilities for all budgets, ranging from group shelters to lake-view pavilions. Overnight guests can choose from fully equipped cottages or cozy campsites. For a more unique experience, visitors can reserve lakeside yurts, which are like canvas and wooden tents. Each yurt has furniture and electricity inside and a fire ring, picnic table and grill outside.

Adored the yurt! Nice hot showers and clean bath house. Lots of food and movie theater within a few minutes drive. Cute gift shop and front office. 99% of the staff was super friendly, helpful, and accomodating. Boat rentals and putt putt and lake beaches. I'd go again in a minute!

Love this park! Always clean. My kids love Birdberry trail. Wonderful beach. Just saw the Adventure cabin rentals....can't wait to have my out-of-town friends (who have lots of kids) look into these beauties.

Beautiful!! Stopped here while on a road trip just to stretch our legs. Will definitely come back for a longer stay. Campsites are lovely and they offer everything from Yurts to air-conditioned cabins...as well boating options.

Great place to trail run or mountain bike. I prefer to park at the boat ramp entrance and go from there. Mountain biking is directional based on the day.

We use the RV Dump Station here (Campground 2 is the easiest to access for our Class-A motorhome.) The restrooms are clean & the Campground Host is friendly. The new boat ramp at Campground 2 looks great! (It was being constructed last year, early 2017, when the lake/reservoir was drained.) I often use a Library-sourced (Winder, Auburn or Monroe, GA) GA State Parks Pass if I don't want to pay the $5 entrance/parking fee! :)
