This was the best $10 I have spent on entertainment in a long time. For $5 a person you pay to go on a 20 minute ferry ride, to Bear Island, and Bear Island is a small gem that you should add to in your vacation plans. It has a lot of open beach front, that is very clean, but has plenty of shells for those of us that like shell hunting. You can also camp out on Bear island overnight, and that seems like a ton of fun, but we did not have the opportunity to do that during this trip. I would definitely go back.

There is no Beach unless you kayak to it!! Well worth the effort! This is the only place I gave been that is a park for kayak trails. Loved it!!

I have always loved this park. During the warmer months you can take a ferry to Bear Island and enjoy the day on pristine beaches. If you like primitive camping, you can do this on the island too if sites are available. The park has future plans for expansion which will add to it's offerings.

Great state park with a very nice and educational visitor center. The staff are generally friendly and helpful. The park has a dedicated kayak and canoe launch that is great for accessing the bear island paddle trail without having to deal with the public boat ramp that has limited parking. Just remember to bring your boat cart! It's about a 50 yard walk to the dock. The office does have a cart for loan if you do forget to bring one along. Rental kayaks are offered on site. I'm not sure if the rental company is seasonal so you may want to check before going if you plan on renting boats. The paddle trail is well marked and easy to follow. Just use caution while crossing the main channels as powerboat traffic can be heavy at times. Remember to stay visible and alert! Campsites are available on bear island and should be reserved in advance. You can access the island by boat or use the seasonal ferry service. Camping on the island is an awesome experience. Just plan for the trip as you would for a backpacking trip. Remember to bring bug spray, sunscreen, and proper clothing! fires are not allowed on the island so make sure you bring a stove of some sort to cook on. I love visiting whether it's for a day of kayaking and fishing or a weekend adventure camping on the island!

A small but active state park. Excellent for visiting coastal tidelands, marshes and islands. Outstanding kayaking area!
