A nicely-done piece of NC history. Beautiful visitor center with a comprehensive and surprisingly long history of the fort as well as ecological information. The fort itself is well-maintained with rooms dedicated to the various periods of the fort. The view from the gun emplacements really highlights local geography and is beautiful. Try to check for the times of the guided tours and cannon firings. There's also a nice park with beach access and restrooms.

There is a nice welcome center with beach access and great views. When you drive a little further up the road, you get to the four and the museum. The museum has lots of historical information and is nicely organized. There is a mini theater where you can watch a documentary. The fort is very well preserved and has great views and lots of rooms were you can walk in and see where soldiers lived and worked. Great experience!

A must-see! If you enjoy history, specifically the Civil War, you'll love touring this preserved slice. You'll have free run of the fort to explore. Inside, rooms are preserved and restored with relics from the past on display. The gift shop offers unique gifts that are reasonably priced. I enjoyed my visit very much.

Beautiful park, the only reason I'm giving 4 stars is because it's not entirely dog friendly. Dogs are not allowed in the fort and I had to leave my pup in the car (only for a few minutes, but it was 85°F) so I could go inside and get a map. All in all, great park and cant wait to come back with a human friend so i see the fort.

A well preserved North Carolina historical treasure. I enjoyed learning about the role the fort played over the years. The staff is very knowledgeable and friendly. There is a nice gift shop in the visitor center.
