THE KINSHIP STORY

Kinship is acclaimed Chef Eric Ziebold and partner Célia Laurent’s restaurant. The restaurant is located on the first floor of 1015 Seventh Street NW in an historic brick building dating back to 1907. A second restaurant, Métier, opened in the bi-level space offering a seven course tasting menu in April 2016. Both restaurants commit themselves to offer creative and contemporary American cuisine with a continued dedication to hospitality.

Kinship is Chef Ziebold’s vision of what the modern American restaurant can be and offers an à la carte menu celebrating the rich diversity of influences that have come to shape American cuisine. The restaurant offers 59 seats plus a 15 seat bar with lounge area and fireplace. Ziebold has described Kinship as a more relaxed version of CityZen, his former restaurant, with a new menu.

The restaurants have been designed by Darryl Carter, a Washington D.C. native and a leader in the design world, recognized for his restrained, distinguished, and livable environments. Darryl has played a key role in defining the personality of the restaurants from day one, making design elements intimately woven with the experience Eric and Célia want to provide their guests and giving the historic nature of the space a second life. Antique materials and furniture pieces are mingling with modern details to create an elegant yet warm and comfortable atmosphere.

Everything about this restaurant is absolutely incredible. Small to medium sized plates for the most part, perfect for trying a little bit of everything. I’ve been several times and the staff’s knowledge about the dishes and what they’re composed of is impeccable. Service is amazing. Perfect date/ special occasion spot.

Simple, yet elegant. The minds behind Kinship succeed in providing a wondrous culinary journey. The location is very interesting, being the only establishment in a large block of run-down, construction muddled buildings, the entry way is very hidden; but no matter, once inside the outside jackhammers are forgotten. A chic dining room and long bar fit for two dozen will greet you. Once seated, a different kind of menu is presented as a contrast from the drab universe of "appetizer, entree, dessert". Selections are instead, made from Craft, History, Ingredients, or Indulgence which offer a raw view into the chef's mind. The servings are unlike other Michelin restaurants in that plates aren't dinky, but substantial. The duck cassoulet was a large ceramic bubbling pot with never-ending morsels. Cater to that sweet-tooth hankering with a delicate pastry to round out the fine-dining experience.

loved it, from the service, to the ambiance, to the wine selection and the food choices! romantic and a great culinary experience. We had the lobster and french toast, the short-ribs, lamb, salad (pineapple quince) and everything was executed exquisitely! desert was ok, maybe that is the only downfall, but since I was full and satisfied I didn't mind the desert not being quite what I expected. We had a complimentary toffee with nuts that was buttery and delicious. I highly recommend this restaurant. The background music was perfect for the night and complimented our dinner with great class.

Kinship is one of my favorite special occasion spots in a city full of beautiful food. Come with someone who wants to share and get a large format meat (usually served with the most lovely button sized Parker House rolls) plus a small vegetable. Truffle season at Kinship is unreal - order the risotto. End every trip with coffee as it comes with a huge brittle to nibble on and use to sweeten your coffee.

Actually very surprised with this place and to learn it has a Michelin star. We came here for NYE and my birthday. We got the four course set meal, but there were a few things you’d expect as a basic standard at a restaurant like this- jacket to be taken to the coat room, a happy birthday wish (they asked during the confirmation if we were celebrating something), not waiting 30 minutes between course 1 and 2 (they did apologize during this time and said they are having a delay), but worst of all, we found a piece of plastic wrapping in one of the meals with cabbage. We notified the waiter and he said “oh no!” Without an apology. Later when he brought out the bill we had asked if he told his manager about the plastic (how does this even happen at a restaurant of this caliber) and the manager came back and took a glass of wine off our bill. When we’re already paying $400 for food with plastic left in it, $17 is nothing. The manager apologized and said they will do better next time, but looked at us with a blank expression. We’re from Chicago, so we won’t be coming back here even if we did live in DC. Incredibly disappointed with the service and my fiancé was so excited to try this restaurant! Besides the plastic knot wrapper, the food was good.
