FULL DISCLOSURE: 14 K reached out to me inviting me back in on the house to try their food since I hadn't done that previously. That's fair. I went during Restaurant Week and tried three courses- the French onion soup, spicy pork sliders, and pistachio cheesecake. Each item was good, but the stand out was the spicy pork sliders. They weren't overwhelmingly spicy, but enough to put some spice in your lunch. Also, the service was attentive and their dining hall is simple, yet classy. I'd definitely come back for a lunch meeting! _______________________________________________________________________ If you're visiting DC, 14 K is NOT the place to visit. In a city now known for its booming food scene, 14 K is a hotel restaurant for the desperate. It's a big place with plenty of seating (so it can host groups) but the food is not very good and their cocktails just meh. What it IS good for is a quick drink during happy hour with colleagues. If you like cider, they have one in a bottle (Angry Orchard). They do offer to put it in a chilled glass so that's nice.

Another hotel restaurant trying to be high end. Just keep it simple, offer good food that real people eat. Service was good don't get me wrong, but not everyone has to be a Ramsey kitchen. You're in America's capital, offer down home American cooking!

I stayed at this hotel and drank in here every night. That is, I had 1-3 beers here every afternoon/evening. This is a good bar. I drink in plenty of bars around the world and I really enjoyed my time in here. Staff quality varies, but the Caribbean looking barmaid was a gem.

The seeing if quite nice. We stayed at the hotel, so came both days for happy hour. I would like to give 2.5 stars. Overall it's not bad, but not great. 14K is located in an expensive area for restaurants, so relatively speaking it isn't too pricy here. They also have good happy hour prices. The first day one of us ordered the duck fat fries from the happy hour menu. The fries were good and had more toppings than expected. The second day, we ordered charcuterie to have with our drinks. It took quite a while for it to come out. We had to send it back as the meat was hard and there was congealed fat around the onions and pickles. It looked as though it had been prepared far ahead then left out. The bread, however, was good. It took about half an hour for the replacement to come out. The second charcuterie was marginally better. As we were hungry, we ate it. The guys at the table next to ours were disappointed in the hummus plate that came out with dry carrots. Everything was slower the second day, so it was difficult to get anything corrected. The check came out wrong and took a while to fix too. I recommend coming for drinks and, perhaps, the happy hour specials but avoiding the food. 14K had quite a few people in the bar section, but few in the restaurant section which also seems to support this recommendation.
