This CG is a gem! Located a mile up the road from Twin Lakes with a stunning panoramic view down on the lakes and across many surrounding peaks. Since it's situated on the hillside, there are many sites that feel like you're getting a front row view. Amenites are few, pit toilets and potable water, typical NFS or state park fare. The Colorado Trail and Continental Divide Trails literally run right through the park, so hiking and biking opportunities are world class. Aspen is 35 miles away over Independence Pass, seasonally, which makes for a great day trip. I wouldn't recommend that route with a trailer, it's harrowing at spots. The hosts on duty were fantastic and run a VERY clean CG. No dump station is available, but a sister campground, Whitestar, that a few miles away does. I'm not sure if you can dump for free if you camped at Lakeview.

Clean and beautifully located Forest Service campground above Twin Lakes underneath Mt. Elbert and on the road to Independence Pass. We visited the weekend of July 4th 2016 and it was generally quiet with friendly campers all around despite being completely full. Water wasn't potable when we visited, bring your own or plan to filter. Easy access to CO82 for the bicycle ride or drive to Independence Pass, quick access to the town of Twin Lakes where there's a convenience store for most camping needs; or a slightly longer drive to Leadville. If you want to hike Mt. Elbert, this is a great place to base camp. It has walking access to the South Mount Elbert Trailhead, or driving access to FS125B to the upper parking lot (which I suggest if you're time constrained). Be aware CO82 is surprisingly busy in the summer, with occasional traffic any time of day or night; at night, it's easily heard from the campground because it's so quiet. There's also a pump-reserve power generation station on Twin Lakes that pumps water into a reservoir above the campground; you'll hear the low rumbling in the middle of the night when daytime demand was high.
