Story

“I started on the Hospital’s Board in 1959. At that time, we knew we had a need for a hospital, we had lots of determination and a very generous community behind us.

We went to the people of Sullivan and surrounding towns asking for donations. The response was astounding. People from across the community – many who could hardly afford it – gave … and then gave some more.

Some even contributed a month’s worth of their wages so we could match the bond issue by the Town Council. Together with the town, we raised $500,000 and the hospital opened in 1962. And we became the first town of our size in Missouri to have a hospital.

The wonderful story of this hospital continued in 1983, when we became part of Missouri Baptist Medical Center in St. Louis – gaining access to their specialists. Then in 1994, we became part of BJC HealthCare. Since that time, BJC has literally rebuilt the hospital, adding an expanded emergency room in 2003, new patient rooms and surgical areas in 2007 and a new maternity department in 2008.
As a result, today, we have one of the best community hospitals in Missouri.”

My experience of Sullivan Hospital. Both my sister's went there for seizures one they couldn't find out anything. The other sister they said she is faking and they don't know if it is really seizures. They haven't done anything to find out what is causing these seizures. Sister has epilepsy since 11and is now 23 years old. Other just started to have them and she is 16. So this is my review. That they can't help and is not a good hospital.

The last two times I've been to the ER I've walked out due to lack of care & the staff having shitty attitudes. The first time I cut my finger open deep enough to need stitches and had blood running everywhere. They offered me a bandaid and went back to gossiping at the nurse's station. I left and went to Mercy in Washington for my stitches. The second I went in over being suicidal and attempting to slit my wrist. They made me sit in the waiting room for half an hour, then took me back to a room and proceeded to tell me I was just in opiate withdrawal. I wasn't in any kind of withdrawal, I'm bipolar and lost my mind for a bit! The staff member left me in a room, alone, with all my stuff including my belt. Once again they all gathered around the nurses station to gossip instead of working. Almost an hour passed and I gathered my stuff and walked out the door. That's what it took to get them to pay attention and even then all they did was threaten to call the police.

Waited 6 hours for the surgeon to tell us my mom needed surgery, but by the time they told us it was too late in the evening and then he wouldn't do it. It's not like she was having tests done all day and there were no patients ahead of us; she had a cat scan and then waited for hours just for them to tell her that they knew what was wrong but wouldn't help her. This wasn't a major surgery, something even a small town hospital could do. We were on vacation and had to drive the 5 hours home at 8:00 pm because they took all day to read a cat scan.

UNFORGIVABLE SERVICE. My daughter went in 3 months ago for an ingrown toe nail. I just found out we paid for a Dr. but was seen by a practitioner . Usually this is all right for small items like cuts and bruise's. But at today's high prices when we pay for a Dr. i expect one, otherwise a lower price for less quality and training. It's been three months and her toe is greatly infected. it's tomato red and puffy. I found out the practitioner only took out a portion of the nail and gave her a script for med's. After a month it was still infected and she went back to have it looked at again. Now my daughter is a slow person and doesn't grasp on how bad this could be, but at the clinic they didn't question her as to why she waited to come back, and after a quick look wrote another script for meds. Now going into 3 months i took her again because i thought she might lose her toe because of this infection. And again ALL THEY DID WAS GIVE ANOTHER SCRIPT FOR MEDS and out the door. They took her money but didn't care about her health, one would think after three visits for same illness they would ask questions or get a real Doctor to look at its or at lease cut out the rest of the nail. Being dad i was mad and called the clinic to find out what was going on. It was after talking to Gale a clinic administrator who after some checking told me what happen. I understood what she said, but question why didn't someone follow up or question my daughter more. They would have seen she is slow and her response to questions would tell them she didn't fully comprehend and after three visits. So now i am taking her to a real doctor not a wantabe and hopefully she will be ok. As for the hospital i have no complaints, but the CLINIC as far as i am concern it is a joke, a waste of money yours or the insurance co, i am surprise if the ins co doesn't look at this an question why they are being billed three times for same illness when usually it's taken care of in three weeks not three months if done right.

I had my third baby here in Feb 2014. Out of all three of my children going on my fourth this hospital and the OBGYNs are amazing. i had a child in Washington and Rolla. This hospital and the maternity ward staff are kind, caring, and so very patient with my pain, yucky attitude when i am in pain, and have an amazing amount of tolerance and truly care for their patients. i am fully at ease and excited to deliver my fourth child with this wonderful hospital, staff, and DR.. God Bless this hospital and all the staff who love their Jobs and care for the patients here in the maternity ward. Absolutely love this hospital!! Excited to enjoy my 4th birthing experience here in December/ January.
