I left my credit card at front desk by mistake. When I discovered this the next day I phoned Candace, who said she would keep it for me when I returned Jan. 16. Returning Jan. 16, I was told the card must be locked in the safe but it would be mailed to me. After 3 calls I was told the card could not be found. I was at fault for leaving the card by mistake, but staff was irresponsible in not safeguarding it and returning it. Won't stay at Motel 6 in East Charleston on next trip. UPDATE Feb. 7, 2018--Louise phoned to tell that the card was still in the safe. She mailed it to me, so I got it back! I will stay at Motel 6 in E Charleston again.

Staff was wonderful--very helpful. Without them commenting on their situation, I got the impression they are used to performing miracles to keep the place going. They were using a backup credit card reader because the "good" one wasn't working. Our room had a power strip and a refrigerator that didn't work. They referred both repairs to the maintenance man, who was just arriving as I checked out. 

Now for the bad news. I suspect the owners are unwilling or unable to spend the money needed to run a nice motel. The building is overdue for a facelift. Textured paint has chipped away from the interior of the elevator door. The balcony railing shows major rust stains bleeding through the stucco/paint. The wall of that same second floor balcony has ugly splashes of an unidentified brown substance (coffee? mud? bodily fluids?) that greet the weary traveler who enters the second floor balcony from the hallway.

My room was as clean as a daily cleaning could get it, but the bathtub needed a new non-slip surface. It was so gray and worn, I spent as little time in the shower as possible, even though the water was hot and the water pressure was great. The floor was as clean as a quick damp mopping could get it, but I could see that staffing is never robust enough to allow for a good scrubbing. The mattress was OK and the bedding was clean, but the bedspread had a hole in it. The card that contains information about laundry was ancient--creased and worn. The ice bucket had cracks in the bottom, and no plastic liner was supplied. I was glad I hadn't brought back dinner leftovers to put in the nonworking fridge, since I wouldn't have been able to keep ice easily, either.

A bright spot was the location, which was excellent. Restaurants, a gas station, and a Family Dollar were all within easy walking distance. It's just a few miles from WV state government offices, where I had business to take care of.

This motel belongs to a chain that I recognize for clean, quiet, well-maintained, budget priced properties. As an allergy sufferer, I love the hard floors and lack of other dust-catching, mold-growing surfaces. I stay at Motel 6 whenever I can. Next time, however, I would try the Cross Lanes Motel 6. That dingy, dumpy room was just too depressing.

Room 203: The sink faucet was not working as in no water. Had to get water from shower to brush teeth, etc. Strand of hair on toilet bowl. Crumbs on bed before either of us could even sit on it. There were vacant rooms at ground floor facing road/alongside main office but receptionist initially insisted on rooms facing back wall which had a creepy enough pathway and no sight of car from there. We entered her first choice (rooms facing back wall) but after inspecting it, I insisted, in turn, for a second floor or any room facing front of motel/main street. Not worth $49/night at all.

This was probably one of the worst stays we have ever had at a motel/hotel. We booked online which was easy,however after arriving everything about the motel was shady. We went into a dollar store next to the motel because there was no soap,shampoo,anything. We had one towel for both of us. After getting what we needed for the night at the dollar store a man was stealing from the store who stayed at the motel we were staying at. The cashier told us this was a well known place for theifts. We were in a room facing the highway ramp,less than 20 yards away. We could hear nothing but traffic all night. Signs all over to lock cars/rooms and that the motel would not be responsible for any stolen items. It was unnerving and honestly the worst sleep I had ever gotten we would have been better off driving the whole night than trying to stop and rest.

I know the rooms not going to be extravagant for the money, but a tv that plays without static is not asking too much, hot water was never heard of in my room and the bed spreads were horrible. They spent the night on the floor. Bathroom door was broken the door coming in the room opened when it wanted too. This place is in need of a major makeover and needs updating and I’m being nice. I would not recommend to anyone EVER!!
