I've traveled to many zoos and this one remains one of my favorites. It has a nice variety of animals and interactive experiences for kids and adults alike. My family has had a family membership for the Oakland Zoo for the past five years, and I encourage everyone who wants to visit to buy a membership. Being a member gives you free parking, early notification of new events, and has reciprocal benefits at most zoos across the country. I also recommend arriving early if you want to see the lions and tigers active opposed to just sleeping in their habits.

Not so big, but big enough to spend a day (10am to 4pm).. Love the Tigers, Lions and Elephants there, Other interesting animals there are Giraffe, Camel, Alligators, Tortoise, Chimpanzee, Zebra, Small python, Kangaroo(by train), birds and more.. Free gondola rides, the small one goes over Tigers and Lions, by Camel, Giraffe and Elephants, the big one takes you to a restaurant and another area that is opening in summer 2018.. The kids rides are not free with the entrance tickets, costs ~$2 to $4 per ride. Train ride is $3.5 per person . OR I think you can pay extra $24 for all the rides. Parking extra $10.

This zoo and it's staff are great. They have tons of animals and exhibits to look at, and plenty of kind and knowledgeable staff members. I only wish that they were able to have more of their stalls open for snacks and souvenirs. It seemed like most of the stalls away from the front of the park were not open. It could be because it's winter though. Great zoo though, and the keepers were feeding animals throughout the day, so it was fun to be able to actually see some active animals.

Love this zoo. The "cages" do not look like cages but rather they have created spaces to resemble the animal's natural habitat. Good variety and mix. To get to the giraffes and lions be prepared to do a bit of climbing. This zoo is not on a level area but the views from the gondola are nothing less than spectacular.

So fun! We have annual family passes and they paid for themselves in just 3 visits. Since we don't have to pay every time we go in we pop by for lunch (the food is really lame but the view is unbeatable), take friends and family, ride the gondola at sunset. I love the giraffes, elephants, hilarious monkeys, bats, camels. The baboons are AWESOME , always running around, playing tag, wrestling. And there's all ages from a tiny baby baboon that hangs out on it's mom's back to a big cool old dude who just chills while the others wait on him all day. The kids area at the Oakland zoo is perfect, too --both my 3 yo niece and 9yo nephew could both really enjoy almost all the rides (he was too tall for just one of them). And they have a Little Free Library on one of their nature paths!
