Reminds of a Hawaiian Resort. Well kept rooms, walking distance from many fine dining and fast casual restaurants. Walking distance from the beach. About 12 minutes away from Legoland Resort. What more could you ask for?

Decent place to stay. Very close to beach. Rooms are nice & well-maintained. Boogie boards, umbrellas, & chairs available to take to the beach. Pool was not available during our stay & hot tub was not as hot as it should have been. Staff was generally helpful & friendly.

Nice clean. Grounds are beautifully maintained so that you feel as though you are not in the middle of the city. Didn't get to the pool and Spa but they looked very nice in the middle of a tropical jungle-like courtyard with firepits, which we enjoyed sitting by with a glass of wine. Conveniently located directly across the street from the public beach access. Our room was updated and include a kitchen but no microwave. Single pane windows facing the street allowed a lot of noise through, including the passenger train that runs through the middle of town pretty frequently, just a couple blocks away. Our stay included breakfast but I think we must be spoiled because we were not impressed with the offerings of a bagel and yogurt.

The ocean palms beach resort is a great place to stay. It is hop skip and and jump away from the ocean. 20 steps away and ur on the beach. The rooms are very clean and safe like a home. This great overnight stay will definitely have me come back and relax.

We spent a lot of time looking at places to visit Carlsbad. We looked for somewhere close to and with easy access to the beach. When we found this place we decided we would pay a lot more for the accessibility. Little did we know it would turn into a NIGHTMARE! There was construction and a porta-potty right outside our room, there was construction every morning, and our beach view was blocked by a crane, a dump truck, and a chain link fence. The beach access stairway was under construction so we had to walk blocks down the road to get to the beach. While I understand that is out of the hotel's control, it would be nice if they let people know there was something going on so it wouldn't affect our trip. That was just the start of the down slide of our trip there. 

The staff was unhelpful, rude, annoyed at having to deal with their customers, and unprofessional. Any time we had to deal with them it was like we were a nuisance and we'd either get a huff and puff or a roll of the eyes. 

Like other posts talk about, everything is nickeled-and-dime'd; you want a mint, it'll cost ya! Everything there is pricey. Furniture and paint are chipped, cracked, squeaky, wobbly, etc. Parking, good luck finding a spot for guests. We love Carlsbad but the area right around there is a tourist trap (tacky and shady businesses just like this one). Breakfast and snacks/ coffee are the cheapest they can get and not taken care of. The walls were paper thin and we could hear nearly every word of anyone walking by or in the rooms next door. 

We would not recommend this place. Seems like they're in it for the money not the hospitality.
