Visited the Miller farmstead. It is very peaceful here. The farmstead sits in a small valley. I don't know if it's a working farm, but the home, land and outbuildings are well maintained. You can walk around the property and one of the park's hiking trails goes through here.

Absolutely a gorgeous park with lots of amenities and activities for all ages. Great camping is also to be had here. The drive up to the top of the mountain is also breathtaking, and if you’re willing to hike part of the Appalachian Trail up to the bald, you will be rewarded with spectacular views into Mitchell County, NC. Also, I recommend visiting in June when the rhododendrons are in bloom at the gardens.

I stayed in one of the cabins here and I was very impressed with both the park and the facilities. All areas were clean, cabin was well equipped (shower and kitchen even) and spacious (the cast iron stove was more than adequate for heating as well), trails well marked, roads clear even with the snowy conditions, and the staff was very pleasant and helpful. I will be returning here and I would recommend it to both day visitors and longer stays. Beautiful countryside.

Cabins are great! If you want to get away from the world, recharge and take in the great outdoors, this is the place. Simple, clean and fully equipped. Priced just right for the high quality service.

Roan Mt. State Park is my favorite place to tent camp-especially if I can get a site beside the river. There are a range of short to long, level to steep, hiking trails in the park, a pool, a nice museum in the visitor center and great cabins. You have to reserve in advance, because they are booked all summer. I regret that you can’t show up & grab a campsite anymore-those have to be reserved in advance, too!
