Salinas / Monterey KOA

About

We are a Full Hook-up RV park that offers short-term stay Kabin lodging as well.

Story

Nobel Prize-winning author John Steinbeck captured the beauty of the Monterey Coast and its beachside and inland communities in his landmark books. Visitors can enjoy an easy 20-minute drive to downtown Monterey, Carmel and the Santa Cruz Boardwalk. Or take a 17-minute drive to Pebble Beach and other local attractions. This KOA is close to local wineries, where wine tasting is the jewel of Monterey County. The campground offers newly renovated cottages with all the amenities and comfort of a hotel room (with a fireplace and / or garden tub in two of the deluxe cottages). Sorry, no pets or smoking allowed in the cottages. Or choose from newly remodeled 50-amp pull thru sites and several 30-amp sites that will accommodate rigs up to 40 feet. The campground's convenient location, 7 miles inland from the coast, makes this KOA your "gateway to the Monterey Peninsula."

Took my family there over the holiday weekend . First night which was unbearably hot lost power . Which they had no control over . The second night they were handing out letters advising you to fill your water tanks because they were having problems with their pump and worried the water was going to go down. Horrible location. Literally a frontage road between you and Highway 101. Very busy Fire station right down the street. About the only positive thing I could say is they have a nice pool because it's brand new. If you're looking for peace and relaxation this is not the place. From my Campground there is a Chevron I could throw a rock and hit a gas pump. I had to buy a lock to lock up my stuff while away in Monterey because I was worried the trash that hangs out at the Chevron would come into my camp and still my stuff. They could at least fence the whole property in to keep the trash out

We decided to make a New Years Eve trip with our family to this KOA. Having been to several KOA camp grounds, we are used to the kid friendly, welcoming atmosphere, and accommodating staff. Upon pulling into the parking lot... yes parking lot that is the "camp ground", we were already severely disappointed, but were willing to stick it out for our children's sake. After moving lot locations we made camp in what appeared to be a cozy spot with pavers ready to build a fire pit. Our boys were so proud to show their Boy Scouts skills. Just as the fire was to be lit, a lady pulled up in a golf cart and explained that you cannot build your own fire pit. We were completely unaware of breaking any rules as she drove off telling us she would send up the manager. A rude man then pulled up and threatened to kick us out of the park. My husband asked him to not get loud around our children, which did not seem to bother him. He scolded my husband for pulling his truck next to our site to unload wood. He put up his hands and told us we had two strikes. Our kids were so upset they didn't want to even play outside because they were under the impression that the grumpy man would reprimand them. Needless to say, we will NEVER return to this parking lot that is a so called KOA.
