We stayed here and had a perfect spot along the lake with our own little fishing cove. Staff was friendly and shower facilities were decent. We would stay here again!

This is a terrific location on the lake. Some of the sites have been updated. Limited bathroom facilities can be a little bit of an issue. Sites 19-23 are nice and private, atop a hill and in some hardwoods.

Shady Grove is one of the nicest campgrounds in Forsyth. The staff is always super friendly and helpful. Everything is well maintained and clean, the campsites have full hookups (except sewer), and the sites are gorgeous & lake front. Yes, you can't have alcohol which sucks, but this is not specific to Shady Grove...this is a rule in all parks in Forsyth County. Forsyth County has Park Rangers who enforce the rules the for the Parks and Recreation Department, and if you get caught with it you have to pour it out and they will either give you a warning, a ticket, or ask you to leave if you're a jerk about it. But again, this is a rule for all parks in Forsyth, so you should know/expect this going in. Overall, this is an awesome campground, I would highly recommend!

Shady Grove is a "love it or hate it" experience. Personally I couldn't be more disgusted with how this place is run. First off, DO NOT BRING ALCOHOL. Forsyth County has "Park Rangers" who are basically code enforcement for the Parks and Recreation Department. If these overzealous cub scouts believe you are having too much fun, then they will flag your site and will literally sneak up in the woods and spy on you. I'm talking covert operations with binoculars and peeping in camper windows. If they believe they detect anything, they will want to look in your coolers. If they find something, it's going to be poured on the ground. Then it's A) a stern warning and constant spying the rest of your weekend, B) a $300 ticket and constant spying the rest of the weekend, or C) being asked to pack up and leave. If the rangers believe you're having too much fun but can't find alcohol, then it's a noise ordinance or you have one tire parked on the grass or your dog leash is not up to code. Also, be prepared for harassment from the camp hosts once the rangers leave. So if you like to go camping to sit around in silence and go bed at 8:30, then this is the perfect spot for you. If you like to unwind and have fun, stay far away from Shady Grove, as it will be a bad experience. For fun loving adults, this place sucks beyond comprehension. As a resident of Forsyth County Georgia, I'm embarrassed by how Shady Grove is managed, but I'm only one side of the coin. All I have to say is THANK YOU GOD for having soo many other options for camping in North Georgia. If Shady Grove was the only choice, my camper would be up for sale today.

If you camp here, beware of a creepy park ranger named John Crowe. He likes to harass families over stupid little things like not having your dog on a leash. Yes, I'm guilty of not having my 20 lb dog on a leash as she slept under my chair while we made smores. He wrote me a ticket for it, even called the police. What's more disturbing is that he seems to take pleasure in ruining your evening and creeping your family out. With a flashlight, I have caught a ranger hiding behind a tree in the dark spying on us (I'm not the only one, see other reviews). What he was doing, I don't want to know. But my kids are afraid of this place because they think some depraved ranger is going to peek in our tent. We won't be back, and I caution any other families, especially with young children to stay away as well. Not sure what his motives are, but it seems perverted to me. It's a shame because it's a nice campground.
