A great place to experience Food for the Soul southern dishes. Yes it's soul food but when executed in a high level it's Food for the Soul. The location is in the art district of Winston Salem, parking is limited beside the restaurant but plenty all around the side streets. The wait staff is very friendly and accommodating. The restaurant atmosphere is clear and outdoor seating is plentiful. The food....well it's done at a high level that you forget it's southern dishes. The sweet potato waffle cut fries are amazing with the fried chicken. You have the most wonderful balance of savory and sweet at the same time. I subject adding a little Texas Pete hot sauce and you just added another flavor element. The sandwiches are well made and flavor profiles are well planned. Make room for dessert. Now that spring temps are back, a slice of the lemon chess pie or Hummingbird cake will complete your meal. When is the last time you had hummingbird cake? It's a must try here, it will be hard to plan to save room because all the dishes they serve are very generous portions. I love this place, Sunday Brunch is also really good from what I hear, no reservation is required but prepare to be patient because everyone knows the brunch is good.

The first thing I noticed was the jazz. The sound system was so clear, I was desperately looking for the musicians. The service and the food were marvelous! Our server was a polite young man who was able to roll with our sense of humor and he earned a generous tip. I cannot wait to return to Winston-Salem and Sweet Potatoes!

Delicious delicious delicious. What a nice place to take your better half on a date. So many great dishes involving sweet potatoes I'm not even sure which one to recommend. The waitress/waiters are very professional and efficient. I do think that they could improve their drink menu and utilization of space maybe a little better. Either way food is excellent and we will be back.

This is a great place for a nice lunch. It certainly isn't cheap, but it's very good. Our waiter was excellent and helpful. The three of us enjoyed our meals. We got the sweet potato bread with ginger butter and it was fabulous. Based on my meal and on my party's, I can recommend the chicken sandwich as well as the fried green tomato BLT. The sauce with the chicken has a little kick to it, but I thought it was excellent. I also really enjoyed the sauteed spinach.

My wife and I went out on the town, dropped in on locally owned Sweet Potatoes. Food is soul in the heart with flavor to delight the taste buds. Environment a bit small so go early, but wait staff is friendly and music in the background is a nice jazz. Negative is limited bar menu for draft beers, and size of place plus price a bit high for soul food. However it's worth it.
