Stopped here when traveling to Winston Salem for the first time. Loved the rustic charm and feel of the restaurant. The menu was diverse and the food was delicious. I ordered a salad with chicken but it came with corn bread croutons that were warm and buttery. I would def. suggest stopping in here if traveling nearby. Not only is the Tavern In Old Salem filled with rustic charm but the whole area is! This was a beautiful place to have lunch. I really wish it wasn't a 2 1/2 he drive so I could revisit it again soon!!

Love the food. We're there for lunch and was actually hesitant to enter the restaurant because we were on a long road trip, and don't want to spend a lot on food since we had around 3to 4 weeks before we headed home in California. Was surprised that the prices were/are affordable and we had a pleasant lunch there. The food were delicious, and the services provided were great. Would recommend and would visit again if we're ever in the area again.

Low expectations for a place in a tourist spot, but was great. It's a lovely old building which sets the scene well. Food options are well judged as they are better than fast food (by some margin) but not too fancy. Good value especially for table service with china, linen napkins etc. Pleasant efficient service also. Rounded off our brief visit to Old Salem well with a smile on our face.

After a demanding first week of work on a project in Winston-Salem, NC, accidentally finding this spot was a godsend. What you will find is that the menu is appropriately seasonal and also expansive. To my surprise, the Chef stopped by the table to chat because it was a late dinner and I was the last guest to order food from the kitchen. He said that the menu changes for spring in early February to accommodate for what is fresh and in season. I look forward to trying the menu refresh. I ordered from the Winter menu before the changeover. I started with the baked Brie, which was phenomenal (but when is cheese not good). For main course, I had duck three ways. The duck risotto stood out on the plate as the best of the three ways. It could be an main course anchor for the menu for sure. The duck bacon and filets were nice as well, but I much preferred the risotto. I skipped dessert knowing that I would return to try again another week. I highly recommend this restaurant if you are looking for something unique, American, period, and tasty. Happy eating!
