This place is hands down 5 stars. From the second you check in you will be greeted with some genuine southern charm. The design is beautiful and the cocktails at the library bar are a thing of beauty. Will absolutely come back to stay at The Spectator when we go back to Charleston. Would 100% recommend to anyone looking for a beautiful hotel at a reasonable price.

Best hotel ever. They have butlers that will answer your beckoning call.  Super friendly services with locally made complimentary snacks in each room.  Will definitely be back.

Excellent experience all around. Very convenient location, everything was walkable. The staff were very courteous and almost everyone addressed you by name. The butler service was very nice although we did not take advantage of it much since we had our trip mostly planned out. They always asked if they could be of help whenever we ran into them. The rooms were modern and spacious. Mini bar and in-room breakfast was very nice. The bed was by far the most comfortable hotel bed I've spent on, even more so than the Westin Heavenly beds. The free bike rentals we're a nice touch.

Beautiful hotel with impeccable service and beautiful interiors. The staff are so friendly and the rooms are nice enough they make you not want to leave and explore the beautiful city. Great location and the in room breakfast was an additional bonus too.

I travel quite a bit for work. 50-70 plus hotel nights a year--for close to twenty years. I had the pleasure to stay in the Spectator hotel on my visit to Charleston. The hotel is extremely clean. I judge the care a hotel takes in cleanliness by looking at the stair wells. Many well-known chains have filthy, unkempt stairs. The Spectator stairs were SPOTLESS. The whole hotel was the same. The hotel looks as if it was just built--just incredibly clean and up to date. The hotel is very quiet. My room overlooked a very busy street, and I couldn't hear anything--much appreciated. The hotel is located in the heart of the market district--near just about everything you'd want to see. The staff was great also. Tim the valet, learned who i was and which car was mine in one day. The front desk staff was equally great. 
There may be better hotels in Charleston, but I'll never find that out, because the Spectator is the only place I'll stay.  I typically write reviews for places I stay and eat--this is the first 5-star rating I've EVER given...
