rented a compact here a month ago. Was 9 minutes over 24 hours so they charged another full day at rate of $150/day; they slapped a hidden $8/day premium road service insurance charge on that I didn't authorize ($16); I didn't have time to top off tank so they charged me $27.72  even though tank couldn't have taken more than 3 gallons max. I ended up with bill for $367 to rent a junk car for 24 hours and 9 minutes; have protested, with no response. Will never rent there again and I travel to ABQ a couple times/month.

After trying to York me on a car, they told me that the car I rented want good for local driving. When I still wouldn't budge they said I would have to wait 10-15 minutes while my car was washed. After waiting they said they were giving me a different car in the same class. Two issues, why didn't they give me this car to start with if it was available and second, it was filthy to include trash in it. Just because I refused to pay for an upgrade is no reason to treat a customer like this. My wife has a similar experience a year ago. Since there are multiple options for rental cars, it is no issue to go somewhere else.

I rented a car from Thrifty for a one-month road trip. They had a rental advertised for $450/month. I ended up paying nearly double that, so I think there should be more honesty in posted offers (but this is partially the US system that does not include taxes but also their system with different fees that add on to the base offer).

Another grievance of international travelers is about insurance, US car rental companies should really have a better insurance for international customers who do not carry over their insurance from abroad. The prices are ridiculous. There should be a different category for people who have a fine drivers record and insurance abroad.

Other than that, the rental was fine, and Thrifty replaced my car when the tail light burned out. However the new car that I got from SFO had no floor mats, and it always reminded me that oil change is due (they forgot to reset it). Minor annoyances. 

All in all you still can't beat their price on this but there are some points in their system that need refinement.

Above and beyond! Exemplary service, professionalism and cleanliness. The car was brand new. The price was the best anywhere!!!! We were overwhelmed with gratitude.
