The U-Haul business is run out of the 76 gas station on the corner of Tahoe Ln and Ridgetop Blvd. I scheduled a cargo van with a reservation with pickup on a Sunday. When I arrived, I was surprised to see that the gas station attendant would be helping me, not a dedicated U-Haul professional. After a number of delays, the attendant apologized and told me that he is unfamiliar with the computer system, that the U-Haul professional is late to work (and that this is not the first time). The attendant bounced back and forth between the U-Haul terminal and the cash register to help manage two businesses at once. Although I was impressed with his determination to not let any customer feel neglected, the lack of a U-Haul professional to help me on my way was really starting to irritate me. I had finally finished checking out the cargo van with the gas station attendant when 20 minutes had gone by. He led me to the cargo van outside; and, to his dismay, found that the van was blocked in by other U-Haul vehicles, which he couldn't move for me (because he could lose his job). He then proceeded to call (/wake up) the U-Haul representative. Another 20 minutes passes before the U-Haul representative shows up in a worn-out T-shirt and sandals. He spends about 10 minutes getting settled and helping to rent out another vehicle to someone else before proceeding to help me. The U-Haul representative moved the vehicles that were blocking in the cargo van, came inside to finish another customer's rental, and asked that the gas station attendant walk me to the cargo van. All in all, it took 50 minutes to pick up my cargo van from the moment I set foot in the business. There was no one in front of me in line. I was on-time for my appointment. I will never be a repeat customer for this business and will direct friends and family to steer clear. There are other moving/rental companies not too far away.
