Refused to change bills for quarters(because I wasn't their customer) walked down the street to the Chase bank and changed that bill without any problem not being their customer.

I can't say much about Charter one as whole, but his branch (zip 60202 on main street) is amazing.  I have been banking there for 2 years and I have been very happy with them.  They work hard to establish strong personal relationships with their customers and create an overall great atmosphere at their branch.  It sounds like such a simple thing, but after having to deal the black void that is Citibank, it was a welcomed relief.

Easily the worst bank in Evanston. 20 years ago, this used to be an excellent community bank. It has gone downhill year-by-year ever since. The current owner is Royal Bank of Scotland, and I believe the intermediary owner was Washington Mutual. The current tellers seem to be heavily coached on selling and up-selling products during every transaction, but receive very little training in anything else. They've managed to screw up even the most basic of transactions, and simple arithmetic seems to be something that eludes them. Management is by far worse; even when correcting their own mistakes, they are rude and unapologetic: apparently I am at fault for expecting any Friday afternoon transactions to go smoothly. The day I closed all my accounts here was one of the happiest of my life. Do yourself a favor and try the Evanston First Bank and Trust branch just up the street on Main Street; or TCF Bank in the Jewel on Greenleaf Street and Chicago Avenue; or First Northern Credit Union on Clark Street in downtown Evanston. All are local or semi-local, and all are preferable to the math illiterate, customer service tone deaf idiots at Charter One Bank.
