Story

White Dog Cafe has been engaging the Philadelphia community with award-winning contemporary American cuisine, since 1983. Known for creative menus, using the highest quality farm-fresh ingredients and humanely raised meats and poultry, our menus change weekly to capture the best local, seasonal and sustainable grown foods available. Completely renovated in August 2014, the historic trio of brownstones feature charming and whimsical décor in each of the unique dining spaces and bar with the same warm hospitality and inspiring fare.

Cool interior design and decorated walls. The menu is large and has some cool creations. Food is pretty good.. sometimes can be an oddly long wait or servers can be cranky maybe because it's busy? Would recommend but maybe not during a peak time.

One of the classy slightly upscale places in university city. Great beer collection. Even better food. I usually order salads here which are very fresh and healthy. But people who have accompanied me have all had only good things to say about this food beyond the salads.

Poor service. Don't go to this restaurant if you are feeling hungry, because you will starve. 

We were a small party of 3, arriving 10 minutes before 1pm. We were seated very promptly and quickly placed our (uncomplicated) orders by 1pm. Around 1:20 pm we ask what is the status of our orders were. While we can understand a delay due to the lunchtime crowd, we started to get flustered by the time it was 1:30pm with no clear idea of when our meals would be ready. By 1:40 we were asking to cancel our orders because we needed to get back to work, but were told that they were almost done and that they would box our meals. We got our meals finally at 1:45.

As I start eating my cold BBQ sandwhich, I wonder if was worth $17 to eat cold food at my desk. I wonder if one of my friends who came with me thinks if cold tater tots or humus with cold pita was worth $20+.

The restaurant is very nice looking and that is probably the only reason why I didn't give them 1 star. It seems as if there is a staffing issue in the kitchen and the wait staff is too eager to take orders but not skilled enough to do anything if there are delays (like being honest about delays). The food is above average and no where good enough to compensate for the awful service.

I do not plan on returning here. I caution anyone looking to eat here to accommodate at least 50% more time than you would expect for a dine-in experience.

This place looks really awesome and I'm sure the food would have been delicious.

We came there because it was the first place listed as a well reviews dog friendly spot.
Dogs are allowed in the outside area. But the outside area is not always available. Today, for example, they were not serving outside. Therefore, the dog friendly place was not friendly to my Fido.

Absolutely fantastic place to have dinner. The food is consistently delicious. Service is wonderful. highly recommended.
