About

Ancient Native American pueblos recount how people and places affect each other. Experience silence and solitude on the edge of Arizona's Painted Desert.

Story

Nestled between the Painted Desert and the ponderosa highlands of northern Arizona, Wupatki is a landscape of legacies. Ancient pueblos dot red-rock outcroppings across miles of prairie. Where food and water seem impossible to find, people built pueblos, raised families, farmed, traded, and thrived. Today, if you linger and listen, earth and artifacts whisper their stories to us still.

This place is wonderful! The monument and its story are a great history lesson. Plus, this area is so far removed from civilization that it was nice to take a moment and enjoy the pure silence of the countryside.

I visited the old Indian Ruins while here it was my first visit to Flagstaff Arizona. When I posted the pictures after returning home to Los Angeles California all of my friends I'm very impressed no one even knew that this place existed I had a great experience this is something that you can go to and spend half the day just exploring all of the ruins and this one area. I was impressed my whole family including my three year old's really enjoyed ourselves. I don't know if I'll ever return to Flagstaff but if I do this will be a place that I have to go back to explore more. If you end up going to the Indian ruins be sure to go early enough so you can really drive around to all the different excavation sites and also take time to really explore the volcanic rock park.

There's a whole lot in Arizona that's "must see," and Wupatki is no exception. It offers a remarkable look into the history of the region, going back centuries or even thousands of years. There's something very special about being able to experience historic artifacts on the very ground upon which they were originally created. There's much here to see.
