We provide Emergency and Urgent Care veterinary services to dogs, cats, small mammals, birds, and other exotic pets.

Story

We're located at the corner of Glenwood Ave and Vick Ave just 1 mile from the beltline. For over 35 years we've been serving the pets of and around Wake County, and recently changed our name from After Hours Small Animal Emergency Clinic to Animal Emergency Hospital and Urgent Care. We are open 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, including holidays! This is not our pet's regular vet, but we have used their services several times.  Late last night, New Year's Eve, we went to them for an emergency visit.  The staff was great.  They were busy, but very responsive to our needs.  The vet in attendance was terrific.  After examining our pet, she took the time to explain what she found and how we should follow up to give our pet good care.  She spoke to us as a human being as well as as a scientist; very much appreciated and not that common.

Very over price!!! I do not recommend due to their over price meds and exams. And trying to sell me something that my dog didn't need. 

I'll never return to this money pit. Something that would cost $150 at my vet, cost me $640. 

Don't go, Avoid!!! 

And to add insult to injury, get ready for a long wait. Got there around 4:40, did leave until 7:40. 

I'll be finding a new vet for referring me to this place. And I'll never return to this hospital.

Update: it took this place 3 days to send my puppy's discharge papers.

Update: My vet looked at my dogs records from Animal Emergency Hospital and Urgent Care. And said the blood test was not needed. My Dog Vitals were fine and she could have waited until the morning. There was no urgency. 

I feel like Animal Emergency Hospital and Urgent Care play on my fears and sucked the money out of my wallet.

Yes, they do cost more money because of the nature of their business model. It's like going to the emergency room rather than your family doctor. We have used them multiple times for a rabbit who stopped eating multiple times. They were always compassionate in their care. The rabbit passed away while we were there the last time, and their sensitivity to the situation was above and beyond. They even sent a card afterwards.

My husband and I’s sweet 13 year old Aussie passed away unexpectedly on Sunday. Those who know us know we have no kids so our dogs are like our children. In a panic we had to find somewhere to take him, say goodbye, and choose our final wishes for him. Quickly we googled 24 hour emergency vet and this was the first vet that popped up. We called and the sweetest lady answered, i believe her name was Lacinda. I think she could hear the panic in my voice. She calmly walked me through what we needed to do and what we needed to bring. We arrived about an hour later with our sweet boy and they had a room ready for us to spend as much time as we needed to say goodbye. They didn’t rush us, they were beyond sweet, compassionate, and caring. My husband was so beside himself and I was willing to pay anything to make sure he got what he wanted for Pistol. The total cost was beyond reasonable and we had his ashes back in our hands the very next morning. We 100% recommend this vet for anyone in our situation and will be telling all our fur family friends as well. Thank you from the bottom of our hearts for your compassion, care, and respect for our family.

Our 8 yr old kitty woke us up at 4am -  he had obviously had a stroke or some sort of neurological event and was paralyzed on one side. The drs at Animal Emergency educated us about his recovery options and gave us space to figure out what was best for our pet - he stayed overnight for observation but his ability to breathe declined rapidly the next day. He was compassionately euthanized in my arms and I'm grateful that he was in a kind/caring place that was making every effort to keep him comfortable in his last hours. Thanks.
