The car on the inside was very clean, outside was very dirty, looked like it hadn't been washed in a month. We couldn't see out the windows. When I think of Avis, it brings to mind top notch cars. The rental agent and all others were very nice

I've been renting here at least twice a month for over two years now. That's a lot of rentals at this location so I think my review is probably accurate and representative of what most renters experience. I can say that some things have improved over the past year with the new parking lot layout, but there is still a lot of room for improvement in other areas. For almost a year, they never had a car ready for me even though I was an Avis Preferred Plus member. Since they remodeled, I seem to have a car assigned most of the time when I arrive. This is an improvement. However, it seems that they are not cleaning the cars very well and I've had several cars recently that smelled like cigarette smoke. Maybe it was just bad luck. The main issue that frustrates me and other renters is the LOOONNNGGG lines to check out of the lot. They used to have two exit lanes and they've recently changed to one lane. If you arrive at a peak time, you can count on waiting 15 minutes or more to drive out of the lot after you get in your car. Also, they never seem to have enough help at the counter. Maybe it's just the rental car industry...but this Avis location seems to show ZERO recognition for customer loyalty and high-volume rentals. Just saying. When I show up at the Marriott they take great care of me as a Platinum member. Not so at Avis...

I was affected by the snowstorms in the south and was unable to travel back to Charleston, SC. I called AVIS national to extend my rental and they said the additional charge was about $300 per day, which was ridiculous. They then told me that I would have to call the St. Louis airport AVIS as they could not extend my rental. I've called four times so far and left two messages and still haven't heard back. Absolutely deplorable. I will never use AVIS or Budget again, and I travel to St. Louis every week. Never had this treatment from Hertz or Enterprise.

Apparently if any of your itinerary changes you are out of luck. We are stuck here for three hours waiting for our vehicle to return at midnight... really. Nothing else available. It will appear at midnight. Cold inside. Slow service. There is a reason we typically do not bother with this company.

Short of help at the front desk was not the least of the troubles. Had to rent a car for over 30 days on business and they make it extremely difficult to renew the lease without driving back to the location of rental, which was over 3 hours away from me. Tried to see if I could return it to a closer location to renew the lease and was told that I had to return to the original location.After two days and a call to my travel agency I was finally able to extend the lease for the required time by phone, however, every time I tried to call to give the mileage for the lease extension, no one would pick up the phone. Finally in frustration I started to dial non- listed extensions in the phone tree and found a non listed menu, which finally led to a live person that I could deal with. Thought my troubles were over just to find out they added a late fee to my bill despite returning the car on time. It used to be Avis was the one who tried harder, seems they are hardly trying now. Next time I will use Enterprise!!!
