My daughter wanted to go to Yosemite National Park but that was 3 hours from our current location. I was recommended Calaveras Big Trees State Park. We decided to give it a try and was not disappointed. The park is quite spacious with lots of walkable Trails. Unlike other state parks, you can deviate from the trails a little to get a close-up of the sequoias. You are overcome be a sense of tranquility to be surrounded by all those ancient majestic giants and to stand next to one of these behemoths is sublime and humbling. At Muir Woods, you have to remain on the trails and can't really get a closer look at their trees. But here, you can walk around freely, camp, or have a BBQ picnic. Great for naturalist and families.

Well, the scenery absolutely rocks. Fantastic views, gorgeous trails, would certainly recommend if you’ve never visited here before. However, as we visited on a Saturday recently in the middle of April, I would’ve expected the restrooms to at least have been open. Out of approximately five restrooms, only one was open. And the park was substantially busy. Not sure what the reasoning was behind that, perhaps we just hit the park at the wrong time. That being said, make a trip to the big trees it’s worth the visit. $10 for Park entrance fee.

We went to Calaveras Big Trees Park to see the redwoods. The most amazing redwood forest I have ever seen!!! We loved this park, as we were walking on the path we encountered millions of lady bugs flying around, it looked like it was snowing. The trees were so huge and the were so many of them. The park was were well maintained and well kept. It was very peaceful and tranquil. I long to go back soon...

Lovely park & Visitor Center. Easy 1 1/2 - 2 hour loop trail, hauntingly beautiful sequoias, redwoods, pines & other lush foliage. Several hikes off of the main trail. Carry extra water and make sure you allow at least as much time as the maps suggest. It's a gorgeous yet also wild area, lacking the trail markers you expect in a State Park. We'll worth exploring more than once!

I love seeing the Giant Sequoia Groves in Calaveras Big Trees State Park. I had the coastal redwood on my place in Bonny Doon California. All sequoias are beautiful, but the bigger they get the more beautiful. Calaveras Big Trees State Park was my favorite state park as a child because of the Pioneer Cabin Tree. Seeing a tree so big people could live in it was mind boggling. Unfortunately, Pioneer Cabin Tree is gone because of a severe winter storm in January 2017. Rest in peace Pioneer Cabin Tree!
