Story

Welcome to the official Facebook page for Coronado National Memorial. The National Park Service cares for special places for American people so that all may experience our heritage. Coronado NMem commemorates our Spanish colonial history in the American Southwest and northwest Mexico, and interprets the cultural landscape and history of the Coronado Expedition of 1540-1542.

It was a journey of conquest and exploration, filled with wonder and cruelty. Inspired by rumors of vast civilizations in the northern "Terra Incognita", 339 European soldiers, over 1100 Indian allies, and unknown numbers of servants and slaves embarked on an epic journey through arid deserts and rugged mountains of modern-day northern Mexico and southwest US. They brought rich traditions and new technologies along with disease and warfare, irrevocably changing the lives of the native peoples and continuing to influence the area today.

Mission

"...to promote and regulate the use of the...national parks...which purpose is to conserve the scenery and the natural and historic objects and the wild life therein and to provide for the enjoyment of the same in such manner and by such means as will leave them unimpaired for the enjoyment of future generations."

Very remote. You are as close to being in Mexico as possible without actually being there. My cell even welcomed me to Mexico so I must have picked up a Mexican cell tower. There is a dirt road that goes straight up with the most curvy hairpin turns I've ever seen. Think Pikes Peak only narrower! Beautiful scenery as you're going up and coming down. Pray you don't meet someone coming the other direction as we did. Yikes.

Awesome staff and a truly unique slice of country. Located along the southwest border this park offers the start of the famed Arizona Trail. Plus the cross national scenery is breath taking

Took my daughter there to get her out of the house. The lady at the building was amazing and very nice. We went on the cave trail to go see the cave... Warning... They will tell you it is a half mile trail... This is true... But it is up hill and the air is thin .. Kicked our butts but very worth it. Just be prepared and take breaks. The cave is AMAZING.. Its an open cave so no fee is needed and you are able to explore. Dust mask might do some good but breathing was tough after that hike up so i might of passed out if i put one on lol.

Beautiful! This park has well maintained trails and beautiful views all around. You can even go to the border here. The visitor center has some nice displays out and a nice little gift shop too.
