Despite reading a scary number of bad reviews in advance of my rental, I was pleasantly surprised with my personal experience at this location. I got a reasonable deal through a third-party provider and had a great experience overall from start to finish. The agent at the counter did not pressure me into buying a toll pass and kindly reminded me to avoid toll roads when I declined it. I was promptly assigned a very new and clean car in the garage. Drop-off was quick, straightforward, and I carefully checked my billing ever step of the way and did not see any unexpected charges. I did see a few customers who were waiting around or resolving concerns with staff, but my own rental experience was very good.
Rental agent told me that liability insurance was required to rent the vehicle and unless I had a 2 million dollar policy I could not rent the car. I asked if we can rent the car without paying for the liability that added $15.88 to my bill and she said no. I researched now and it looks like she lied, unless I did not research it correctly. I am not satisfied that she lied and would like a refund of that insurance that is not a requirement to rent the vehicle. She also told me to go to the 3rd floor when the rental vehicle was on the second floor. Overall, not a great experience had.
Let’s start with the positives - the car. New and what I booked or very similar. The negatives, and it’s a massive negative. Their customer service is shockingly poor. First of all, the reservation desk at Miami airport was the busiest desk. All other agencies were very quiet in comparison. There were 11 desks/ service counters but only 5 were manned. It took us 70 minutes to check-in and be seen. There were many more people in the queue so god knows how long it took some of the others. Once that was completed, we went downstairs to collect our car, and it wasn’t ready, or even there. We waited for another 60 minutes. The first car they gave us, the guy at the security exit gate told us we had to return it as it was the wrong car. I was obviously getting irritated and impatient and one guy there had the cheek to tell me to ‘Be patient.’ Overall, after a 9-hour flight, it took us over 2 hours to get our car. I would not use them again, pay a little more and use one of the other agencies in MIA. PLEASE NOTE: It’s been 2 weeks since I first wrote this review and I have more to add. I was very reasonable in my first review. However, since returning home, Dollar have billed me $83 for the Toll Pass, which I declined when I collected the car at MIA. PLEASE BE CAREFUL AS OTHERS ARE SAYING THE SAME THING. CHECK THE CONTRACT. THEY ARE NOTHING SHORT OF CROOKS! We went through the rental agreement with the representative at pick-up and I was very clear about not wanting the Toll Pass. In fact, the representative said, “Just avoid the tolls”. I didn’t check the Rental Contract as I trusted everything was clear. The Rental Contract, which I signed trusting the representative had accurately noted my responses, states I accepted the Toll Pass. I didn’t. I have contacted Dollar and they simply said I signed the contract. THEY ARE DISHONEST. GO TO A DIFFERENT AND MORE TRUSTWORTHY AGENCY
My wife recently rented a car from Dollar Rent a Car in Miami to visit her grandfather, who was in the ICU. Unfortunately, the experience was disappointing from the start. The car had a terrible odor, making the drive unpleasant. To make matters worse, the car had ants inside, which was both disgusting and unacceptable for a rental. Despite these issues, my wife powered through, but upon returning the car, she was charged $80 for limited liability insurance that she had explicitly declined at the counter. When we tried to resolve this by calling, we were only met with an automated system that provided no option to speak with a real person. After several attempts, it was clear that customer service wasn’t a priority. Between the awful smell, the ants, and the extra charge, this rental was a disaster. Be very cautious when renting from Dollar in Miami and review all charges closely because getting help after the fact is nearly impossible.
We were extremely disappointed with Dollar Miami Airport services. We were poorly received on the 4th floor when we handed over the car, in particular by the woman who pointed out the vehicle to us. We asked for a mid SUV like Nissan Rogue and we were only offered a much smaller Subaru Crosstek impossible to change. It was difficult to fit all our luggage into the trunk. Finally, the car was dirty, we found dirty panties under the passenger side floor mat. We do not recommend this company and its services. They are clearly victims of their success...
I've been charged $ 62.86 + TAX despite having brought back the car with full tank option selected at the desk at pick up. Mailed o Customer Service, no reply I change the rating to 3 stars, since, after the 1 star feedback and after having sent the proof of fuel payment in the airport area would have been easier to note the full tank at return?, I've been credited the charged fuel amount.
Beware of their scam with Thrifty: they include electric cars in a “manager choice” rental option, but don’t tell the customers about it in a description. Then they offer a fee increase plus $25 per day in addition to the total price for a gasoline car option. And don’t prepay!
I had a great experience. Very good customer service on the airport. Noone tried to convince me to buy anything weird or to upgrade my car. Car itself was brand new Kia Soul with 200 miles driven before so it was spotless and comfortable. I pade additional fee to give the car back in different state - no problem there also. Giving back the car very easy and plesant.
If you want absolutely terrible customer service and you feel like being discriminated against and treated like less than a human being come to this location in the Miami Airport and ask to speak with Maria. She will be sure to humiliate you and give you absolutely zero star customer service with a lot of disrespect. I was ignored, embarrassed, and treated as if I was not paying these people money to rent a car. I merely asked this lady for directions and I've seen homeless people treated better than she treated me. I simply asked for DIRECTIONS TO THE PICK UP AREA. Joaquin Marrero did his very best and apologized on her behalf. However, this lady deserves to be fired immediately, and I have never said that in any review. I believe that there are coachable moments, but this lady doesn't deserve a job working with the public.
I am writing to express my dissatisfaction with the experience I had when renting a car at the Miami airport on July 18th. As a first-time visitor to the United States, having just arrived from Spain, I was relying on your company to provide honest and helpful service. Unfortunately, my experience was quite the opposite. When I picked up the car, the representative asked if I wanted to purchase the toll pass. I mentioned that I was heading to Palm Beach, where my apartment is located, and asked if it was necessary to pay tolls for the route. The representative assured me that it was mandatory. Trusting this information, I agreed to the toll pass. However, after speaking with my roommates, I learned that I had been misled. It turns out that tolls are not mandatory for the route from Miami to Palm Beach unless I specifically used toll lanes, which I did not. Upon reviewing my Rental Record, I found that the representative had added a toll pass for every day at a rate of $13.99 per day, totaling $69.95. Living in Palm Beach, I did not need the toll pass at any point during my stay. I feel completely deceived and taken advantage of. As someone new to this country, I expected Dollar Car Rental to make my arrival smoother, not to exploit my lack of local knowledge.
