While I wasn't blown away, this is a solid Ethiopian option. We got a large veggie tray and added fish. Heads up, the fish comes served whole. It was also the highlight of the meal! Came right off the bone. Keep in mind, DC has a wealth of Ethiopian and Eritrean dining options. Dukem is average to a bit above average price. And I'd say the good is solidly average (that said, solidly average is still pretty tasty when it comes to Ethiopian). All in all, if you want to be in the neighborhood (maybe you to hit up some bars afterwards), this is a good choice. If you're specifically looking for the best Ethiopian in the city, cast a wider net.

Atmosphere and music was great. Low-key, good place for a lot of conversation. It was my first time trying Ethiopian food and the beef was okay (I had the Gored Gored done medium), but half of it was chunks of tallow. The only things that were served with my injera (bread) were watery, bland diced tomatoes and some spicy sauce. I felt full but the tastes were disappointing for me. I'm not sure what injera is "supposed to" taste like, but for being called Sourdough, I expected a powerful, sour flavor, and not the texture and bland flavor like that of vegetarian/vegan imitation beef.

This was my first time trying Ethiopian food. My two major opinions were that the food was good. And the service was TERRIBLE. My cousin and I arrived and it took about 5 or so minutes for anybody to even acknowledge that we sat down. Then we were given menus and the server disappeared for another 5-10 minutes. After ordering our food it took another 5 minutes to actually take our drink order (to which she never refilled, which sucks because Ethiopian food can be spicy...). She never checked on us AT ALL after our food arrived, but she could seen outside lolly gagging around. And we had to flag her down just to get a to-go box and the ticket. It was really terrible considering the server for the next table was so much better... I won't be returning since there are other restaurants that serve the same food. I DON'T RECOMMEND..

Service is nothing to write home about. The veggie platters are decent. Tibs are definitely worth trying.
