Really liked the food, but the ambience was a little off. Was sat at a table right by the kitchen and could hear both the house music and the kitchen music. Food also all come out together (which is fine, it's dimsum for Sunday brunch), but would have been nice for the waiter to realize there was an obvious ordering to the dishes we ordered and suggest that we order them in that way.

Overhyped. The service was bad consistently across the board, starting with the cold receptionist who didn't seem to enjoy her job, to the waiter who was just trying to get us to order and done and didn't care too much to offer advice or explain the menu . Food was okay . They tried to be creative. The scallop cake I tasted more fried egg than scallop. The beet salad was the highlight but the different pieces of beet were inconsistent. Overall it tries creative but lacked execution and the food is not very refined in general. It could be a better brunch place than a dinner place. The fireplaces outside were pretty cool though .

The food at Hazel can only be described as an orgasm on a plate. It is definitely not for the unadventurous or the unrefined palate. The wait staff was extremely knowledgeable and pleasant. We arrived without a reservation on a weeknight at approximately 7:15pm and were immediately given their best seating options. I would definitely recommend Hazel for a special occasions and small gatherings of friends who appreciate unusual dishes.

I visited DC recently and as a food lover I wanted to try this restaurant since I had read its great reviews. I will start by saying that I loved the decor, so that was a plus. The hostess was not very welcoming at the greeting and when we were asked about reservations, which we did not have (they do not accept less than 24 hours online reservation), she just said we could sit at the bar if we wanted. I don't think she was having a great day but who cares, we were in and we were hungry. We ordered the Grandma's zucchini bread (yummy), the kimchi scrambled eggs with bonito flakes (interesting and well executed) and the breakfast donburi bowl which was AN ABSOLUTE DISAPPOINTMENT!!!!! the rice was slightly cold, the fried egg was overcooked and the pickled cucumber was overpowering on the dish. What a shame for the grand finale on the meal courses. We did not have any alcoholic beverages. Coffee was great, french press, and a $6 -out of a bottle, from concentrate, not freshly squeezed orange juice. Not a place with many options for no Et-OH drinks other than DC's fine water and coffee. I honestly think I could see this restaurant as a trendy place for brunch with friends because it is def. nice inside and the cocktail menu seems attractive enough, but I would not expect too much gratification from the meals as a foodie. Also, the service, from hostess to bartender, was cold and uninviting.
