We did a quick tour of DC, and several of our friends mentioned we should stop here. They were right. Don't be intimidated by the need for tickets. On Thanksgiving week we walked in and got tickets for the next tour. Tickets are free, but please donate as the experience is worth your money. My favorite part of this experience is the oral history provided by the National Park Service. After a brief wait in line, the park ranger escorts you into the interior reconstructed theatre. You can sit wherever you like, and then the Park Ranger provides a very informative and vivid retelling of the events before and after Lincoln was shot. In an age of over-produced videos, the intimate nature of the oral re-telling of the story is bold and refreshing. It's not just the oral history. The National Park Service provides context on both Lincoln and Booth. We spent about an hour and half getting our tickets, waiting and then visiting the theatre. I would add another 30 - 45 minutes to your visit if you walk through the Peterson House across the street which is also included in your ticket. The Peterson House is the place where Lincoln ultimately passed.

I was blown away by how knowledgeable and attentive the staff, volunteers, and park rangers were. This is the theater where president Lincoln was shot, and they’ve got a museum with the gun JWB used, and the blood stained pillow from the gunshot wound. Tickets are required for entry but they’re free. The tour also includes entrance to the theater itself, where they’ve got the presidential booth maintained for viewing. Across the street is also included in the tour, which is the Peterson House where they brought Lincoln’s body & where he died. They have preserved it and recreated the inside to look as close as possible to the real night from 1865. Very cool. Specifically, Rob Lorenz & Steve Miller were fantastic in their stories and friendliness.

LOVED seeing a performance in the historic Ford’s Theater! It was inspiring to spend a little time here. Be sure to visit the museum downstairs and the historic Peterson house and “aftermath” exhibits across the street. Walk in admission is free, but during busy seasons consider spending $3 online to guarantee timely admission.

Very educational. It was an easy going visit. We had 30-45 mins to check out a basement gallery that had a small gift shop and a few short film areas to sit a watch a few documentaries. Then followed by a presentation in the theater by a gentleman that I believe did a great job of narrating us through the events of Lincoln's death. It was one of my favorite stops.

The theater was kind of small not much seat room. Chairs small. Room was very warm after awhile. Play was good. Wasn't too long and fact and fiction good blend. Looking forward to the Wiz.
