This is the best place I have ever been in Washington DC last year in summer break! They have sections such as minerals, marine animals, prehistoric animals, earth geography and etc. The best part is that you don't even need to spent a cent on entry! They also have a food court with different types of international cuisines. Although you do need to spend money on it but the food is exceptionally good! My favorite part of the museum was the mineral section as it has different varieties of colorful minerals in all sort of shapes and sizes. In the museum, there are also TV screens that are playing videos related to the section you are at. My most memorable object in the museum was the Hope diamond, as it was very marvelous, but I think that the diamond was kind of overrated since there are multiple exhibits that are more interesting than that one diamond. Still it was very fun too see the different exhibits in the museum, and I had the most fun in my life. I highly recommend to go here if you are in DC since this kind of museum is one of a kind.

The taxidermy specimens here are stellar. The elephant in the rotunda is enormous, the museum looks amazing, and is a wonderful part of Washington DC. I have been here twice, and it is one of the best museums I have ever been to. Although I think the dioramas at the American Museum of Natural History in New York are better, and some of their taxidermy looks amazing, almost every single specimen here with the exception of a spectral bat holding a mouse in its mouth is amazing. I also saw the Insect Zoo, which is a lot cooler than it sounds, and the dinosaur fossils on display are huge. It may not be as big as some natural history museums, but it is a great place to stop if you are walking around the National Mall.

Free entry, like all museums in DC. The drawback is that things inside are going to be pricey. Great trip if you don't buy anything. 😉 Security at the entrance was easy and quick. The gemstone exhibit was extraordinary. Quartz was quite diverse, which I appreciated. The Hope Diamond was nice, but a little crowded, and the size of the room didn't help. I didn't find that in itself worth the trip. The collection all together was breathtaking, though. Nature Photos gallery was great too, all amazing subjects, yet each very different from everything else in the room. The ocean exhibit was great, with plenty of interesting things for younger people to look at and touch, yet many, many things that kept my attention as well. The preserved squid they had was OK, and doesn't look like it survived the preservation process very well. Overall an awesome museum; but like I said, I didn't set foot in the gift shop. P.S. No Food or drinks except water allowed in the museum.

The museum is easy to get to, clean, huge, and expertly arranged. We took our four and two year-old kids for the day and got to enjoy watching them get excited for dinosaurs (bones), ocean life, human history, and many other exhibitions. We arrived at the front of the museum at 10:40 on a Sunday morning, and walked half a block to the end of a standing line. The line moved very quickly (for the length) and we reached the front door in about 15 minutes. Everyone in line was pleasant and patient. Security was professional and fast. There are food trucks lined up along the road in case you want anything to eat or drink. The coat room fills up quickly (about 30-40 lockers total), so make a left when you first walk in and claim your spot. Bathrooms are available immediately after walking in, and also throughout the museum. The cafe is quite limited in healthy food options. I thought a salad would be an option, but it was not (sold out). Healthy options included grilled chicken breasts, green beans, coleslaw, and quinoa. Most options included corn bread, fried chicken, cheese burgers, pizza, etc. The staff was friendly, but prices were high. FYI: On a Sunday morning, we drove into D.C. and parked a block away for an all-day charge of $15. This is awesome, and way better than taking the Metro.

Love love love the Smithsonian museums. Free entry is especially nice but the fact that all close at the same time kind of bites. If you are from out of town and on a limited time schedule, you have to pick and choose which buildings to visit as you will truly only have time for 2 max in one day. At leadt to really enjoy them. Otherwise would have been 5 stars.
