Story

Escape the heat in cool Gunnison, where the average July high temperature is 80 degrees. From this campground southwest of town, you're just 10 minutes from Blue Mesa Reservoir and the 40-pound-plus trout that make this big, cold lake one of Colorado's top fishing holes. The rainbows in the KOA fishing pond (mid-June to mid-September) are a tad bit smaller. Cruise on a paddleboat (mid-June to mid-September). This KOA rents bikes and features an off-leash dog park. Hike, bike or go rafting in the area too. To the west, the sheer rock walls of the Black Canyon of the Gunnison plummet some 2,500 feet to the Gunnison River. Crested Butte, a 19th-century mining town surrounded by peaks, lies a half-hour's drive north. Kebler Pass provides some of the best autumn aspen color in the Rocky Mountains.

Nice owner. Didn't like facing the campers next to us. They had dogs.

Good campground! We enjoyed our stay here, except for the nasty showers and mosquitoes. There's a pond, so there's bound to be mosquitoes, but the bathrooms... They were terrible. Either they didn't clean them yet or they're not good with cleaning their restrooms, but I'm assuming the former. Anyway, the sites are great, and there's a pond, playground, big dog park, shuffleboard, and a game room, all of which looked enjoyable (except the pond wasn't ultra-inviting. It was scummy 😰). There were some farm animals too, like mini horses and cows, which were awesome! The staff were really nice! Plus, Gunnison is nearby and it's great to walk through with awesome restaurants and stores. I'd recommend this campground to anyone driving through! (PS, there is an airport right next to here, so it might get a little noisy. I never woke up in the night from them though.)

Super nice very clean and well kept. Very friendly and attentive staff. Will definitely be returning every time I visit for fishing and to see relatives at western state. Blown away by the experience.

We really enjoyed our stay. It was our first KOA, friendly, helpful staff, very clean bathrooms. The only negative we didn't like but it won't discourage our return was being tent campers with kids, both bathrooms are closed daily from 10-1 for cleaning. There are no other's to use on site. That was tough with kids. All in all it was nice though. We'll be back for sure!
