Very supportive staff. They called me about 2 hours prior to picking up the full size pick up I had reserved, with news that the truck had a large cracked windshield & wasn't going to be available for couple of days, pending repair. After my approval, they put me in a full size SUV, at no additional cost. They called me Monday & told me I could come in & pick up the full size pick up I had originally. No problems.

Worst experience of my life. Navy Sailor home for the holidays. My fiancee brings my daughter and I to pickup my prepaid and reserved car from Mira Mesa so we may drive to see my grandmother and there's not cars available. There are 3 other people also waiting for vehicles. Clearly we all had reservations and they made no attempt as to filling the requests. A bigger sized vehicle gets checked in and they still won't give it to us because it's not our reserved size. Hertz is going to lose some GREAT business over this one location that can't preform or accommodate. Biggest waste of my time and holiday leave.

I arrived about 15 minutes early to my pickup time. I went through all the paperwork to get my car and then was informed there was a $200 deposit required on my credit card. I have never had this deposit when I was using a credit card. I have had it when I use a debit but never with a credit card. I was informed that even though I'm a Hertz​ gold club member sometimes the computer still charges the deposit and they can't do anything about it. They also couldn't accept my debit card because I was under 25. So I paused the transaction to call my bank and transfer money to my credit card so I could use it. When I returned (5 minutes later and after my appointment time) I was told that they gave my car away and they did not have any available. I could upgrade for an extra out of pocket charge though. Excuse me??? Why the hell would I have to pay more because u didn't have my car that I reserved over a week ago!!!!! I was told they might have one within two hours and I could sit and wait or come back!!!!!! I only had an hour to do this before I had to go to work. Therefore I left and was told to come back tonight. What the hell. This is by far the worst car rental experience I have ever had.

So far I have not had any issue with Hertz as a company, but major issues with this specific branch. I booked a 5-day rental from Hertz Mira Mesa back in December for a trip over President's Day weekend in February. The reservation time was at 8:00 am on Friday so that I could pick up the car on my way to school. I arrived at about 7:55 and, seeing that the office was completely empty, decided to go on a quick walk around the building to stall. I arrived back at the front office just past 8, and there was still no one in sight. Feeling a little worried, I pulled out my phone to see that I had gotten a voicemail from Hertz claiming that there weren't any cars ready yet and that they would call me when one was available. This was a major cause of stress for me, as I only had a couple of hour long breaks sprinkled throughout the day, and UCSD is reasonably far away. I called Hertz back and was directed to the generic customer service representative who told me they would be in contact with the area manager who would try to work it out with me. By 11 am, I still had not heard from Hertz, so I gave the office a call. I was told again that no cars were available, but he said they could send someone out in my break around 2 pm when cars came in to pick me up. He told me that they would call me again when it was ready. 2 PM rolls around, and still nothing from Hertz. I call back and ask about the status of the car. Justin tells me that there is one currently available and that I'm welcome to come pick it up. Thankfully, one of my friends just got off class and I can hitch a ride with him to the office. This break is only from 2-3, so I'm expecting a quick transaction at the office. I arrive at the office and lo and behold, Justin had lied to me on the phone and there were actually no cars available. I'm told that one will be arriving in about 15 minutes. It's now about 2:30, and I have to sit there in the office waiting for a car that I should have received at 8 am, and then was lied to about its availability. After about 20 minutes, the car arrives and I complete the transaction. I arrive back at school around 4:30, 60% of the way through my class. The rest of the weekend was great, and the car was a fun addition to the trip. I had zero issues with the car for the course of my vacation, but there was a nice little surprise in my bank account a few days after returning the car to the office. Justin had apparently neglected to apply the AutoClub age differential waiver to my rental, and I had been hit with an additional charge of $116.37. I contacted Hertz corporate on Twitter, and they, thankfully, solved the issue within a few hours and removed the charge. I would certainly think twice about using this particular location again. The service I received was unacceptable, and obtaining the rental was a huge source of stress for a weekend of relaxation. It's one thing to have no cars available and your rental be late, it's another thing to be lied to by the employee.
