Holliday Lake State Park

Story

Holliday Lake State Park is a state park located within the confines of Appomattox-Buckingham State Forest in Virginia. The land was cleared as farmland in the 1880s before being returned to its forested state in the mid-20th century. Today, the park is known for its fishing opportunities. The park was one of four recreational areas developed by the Virginia Division of Forestry (now the Virginia Department of Conservation and Recreation) working in conjunction with the Civilian Conservation Corps (CCC) during the Depression. The central water feature at Holliday Lake is the 150-acre man-made lake. Contributing resources include Picnic Shelter #1, Wellhouse (c. 1939), the Dam/Spillway/Bridge/Lake, Drainage Culvert, Retaining Wall, and the Park Circulation System. Adjacent to the park is the separately listed Holiday Lake 4-H Educational Center. It was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 2012.

Holliday lake is a great location for camping, kayaking, fishing, and hiking. They offer well lit bathroom and shower facilities and the campsites have electric and water hook ups. The lake offers a sand beach, water toys, boat rentals, and food resources. Great place for affordable family fun!

It was great hiked about 4 miles on one the numerous trails, I also had a great time fishing the lake is wonderful and full of many different species of fish. This a great place for a family vacation, camping trip, or fishing outing. I have been to many parks in the area and this is by far the best one

I have lived not even an hour away for 10+ years and made my first visit with one of my 2 kids and husband this past weekend. Not only was it incredibly great priced/cheap but it was very well kept, clean, friendly, and safe. I did not ever have to use the restrooms but the entire park was clean and I would feel safe in assuming they were clean as well. The water was clean enough to see through and they had all kinds of fun water floats and places to jump in and general water fun. Kids under 2 are free and they do have a concession stand to buy food although you can bring your own. I can't wait to return with both my kids!

Campsites very nice. Redbud bathroom old and unpleasant. Water very rusty. No TV reception. No Verizon reception. Radio limited. We won't ever return.
