Keowee Toxaway State Park

Story

Keowee-Toxaway State Park is a state park in Pickens County, South Carolina. It was created in 1970 along the shores of Lake Keowee from lands previously owned by Duke Power. The Keowee-Toxaway Museum includes exhibits about the area Cherokee Indians and their interactions with local settlers. There are four interpretive kiosks along one trail that also highlight the Cherokees. Trail has since been closed and artifacts moved to the Cherokee museum in Walhalla. The park includes several picnic shelters as well as fishing and boat access to the adjacent lake. Hiking can be done on the 3.1mi Raven Rock hiking trail or the 1.4mi Natural Bridge hiking trail, as well as a short interpretive loop trail. The park also offers both backcountry and paved campsites, as well as cabin lodging.

Like most SC State Parks, it is a clean, safe and relatively inexpensive place to camp. Most sites only have parking for one vehicle. Some sites have "off camber" (sloped) parking which is not good for motorcycles. Otherwise, for the cost, it's a nice place. Note: This is a "pack-in/pack-out" park, meaning there are no trash cans. You must dispose of your trash at another location.

Stay away. Horrible campsite. Just kidding. This campsite is awesome! It's a couple mile hike. Unless you come in via boat. Very worth it though. Campsites like this are few and far between.

Nice park. Ranger was very helpful and super friendly. Nice not having to pay to get in.

Hidden gem. Loved this park. Space number 2 is the one to get. No trash dumpsters. Over 35 ft for very skilled drivers only to exit... S turns going out. Better to go out the way you came in, not worth the risk of damaging your rig.

This is a nice alternative to Devil's Fork. It's a smaller campground but very pretty and with nice hiking trails. Good location for taking day trips to Asheville, Hendersonville, or any of the surrounding hiking spots (Jocassee, Devil's Fork, Sassafras, etc).
