For the prices, these sandwiches are dismal in quantity and presentation. for a few dollars less, you can get a huge sandwich at Henry Higgins bagels across the parking lot. The customer service is absolutely terrible. I was the only customer in there and the employees acted as if my presence was an inconvenience to them. After I ordered I realized I wanted to go easy on the cheese, and upon request the employee looked at me reluctantly and explained the sandwich was already almost done. It has been 5 minutes (yes I was keeping track) and being the only customer in there I felt it appeared lazy that they couldn’t open my sandwich and take a slice of cheese off. It really wasn’t a ridiculous request. :( i just want to be treated nicely and I left feeling sad and as if I were not welcome there. Not the first time I’ve felt like my order is a huge problem for them, when I have never strayed from the items listed. I’m very sad and will not be returning. I live in the neighborhood and the Foster Neighborhood Association will understand that this business isn’t welcoming.

I've been coming here for several years, and have loved it: a local coffee shop with heart is how I would have described it until a few months ago. But lately the service has gone from friendly and welcoming to downright poor. Most of the staff seem unfocused, unfriendly, annoyed.

Delicious coffee, pastries and sandwiches and friendly service. I enjoy this shop on every visit to Portland.

I LOVE Pieper. I live in the neighborhood and I stop in regularly to get lunch. It's a well lit, pleasant place to work, if you like that coffee shop buzz.

The service is terrible. I asked for light tapenade on my sandwich and instead of happily saying she would do it, she said “uhhh... I already made it” :( that’s not really what I wanna hear, especially when I’m the only customer and my flat pethetic sandwich cost $8.25. Not a single smile from either employee. I’m not a harsh customer, but my experience was off putting enough to write my first google review :( thumbs down!
