The Exotic Resort Zoo

About

If you're planning on visiting central Texas (ATX/SA), you can be part of this amazing Safari adventure located 4 miles north of Johnson City on Hwy 281.

Story

Upon arrival, you'll begin your adventure through 137 sprawling wooded acres, where 700+ exotic animals (at last count) from 80 different species will invite you into their home!

But first, get ready to share this experience to the fullest by purchasing a bucket of feed, so that you can socialize and hand feed everything from American Bison, Scottish Highlanders, Bactrian two-hump Camels and Zebras!

The professional tour guides will look forward to sharing amazing facts about some of our more unique 'personalities', as well as educational information about how The Exotic Resort Zoo extends and preserves their way of life by allowing them to thrive and multiply without the threats they would experience in the wild.

Your adventure doesn't stop there! When you're done with the guided tour, be sure to stop in and have your own close-up encounters with more of the young babies in our multiple petting zoo areas. You can even extend your stay further and bring your own lunch to relax to enjoy a picnic meal under our large tree covered picnic area!

If you want to extend your Safari Tour experience into a more personal and private encounter, we recommend checking availability at any of the (5) safari cabins. They are all finished out with aromatic cedar and all are configured for plenty of space for a family of 4, with one two-story cabin that is configured for a family of 6 (we can work with options for larger families as well, just call us)!

When you stay at the Safari Cabins, your party of paid guests also receives complimentary guided tours! In addition, you'll have private access to several small pool areas, hot tub, recreation area with tons of outdoor cooking options (and pool table to pass the time)...

There is also exclusive access to the kangaroo exhibit, catch & release fishing pond, and a large playscape area for the kids. If you bring a bucket of feed down to the cabin area, many of the animals will come over and you can feed them directly for as long as you like (especially the camels)! Beyond that - just sit back, relax and enjoy the beautiful views overlooking the majestic hill country!

This place is awesome. The staff are so friendly. The guided tour was an hour long and we got to see so many animals. Be prepared to get your hand slobbered on as you feed them throughout the tour. You get a chance to get up close and personal with the goats and deer in the petting zoo. During our visit, one of the goats had just given birth. It was an amazing experience. We will definitely be back.

Excellent experience for the whole family. I have a non verbal, severely autistic son and his twin brother and a nine year old daughter and all of them love this place! It is very laid back with tons of opportunities to engage directly with many kinds of friendly, happy animals. You will learn a lot on the guided tour through the property where you can feed all of the well fed and content wildlife. I can not recommend this place enough.

My friend and I (both adults) traveled here from Austin for a day trip to enjoy the safari ride and petting zoo. It was a very fun experience getting up close and personal with the many gentle herbivores. Very educational and afforable! I spent a lot of time in the petting zoo with the goats who were all too cute (this was honestly the main reason I wanted to go!). I'd recommend it to anyone who wants to spend a few hours with animals!

This is genuinely my favorite place in the entire world. I went here with my family while on a FAMILY VACATION when I was an agsty 15 year old. As a teenager, I knew it was my responsibility to complain about things and be annoyed by everything but oh man I put one foot in this place and I felt like I was 5 again. It was the most fun I have ever had. All 5 of us (in my family) were smiling and laughing and having together and that hasn't happened since before mom had cancer 10 years ago. We were a real family again.

Bactrain Camels (like from Planet Earth fame), zebras, bison, gazelles all ate from our hands. What a cool park! There were also petting areas and picnic tables to entertain you beforehand. I love that we didn't need to schedule anything. Show up, and tours are running every 15 minutes or so. Definitely buy a bin or 2 of the animal feed.
