Story

The United States Post Office Madison Square Station is a historic post office building located at 149 East 23rd Street between Lexington Avenue and Third Avenue in the Gramercy Park neighborhood of Manhattan, New York City. In spite of the building's name, it is not located on Madison Square but about five blocks east (approximately 1/4 mile) along 23rd Street. The building runs through the block to East 24th Street, where there are loading docks and another much smaller and less formal public entrance. The building was constructed in 1937, and was designed by Lorimer Rich for Louis A. Simon, the Supervising Architect of the Treasury. It is a two to three story building clad on its main facade with polished "Dakota Mahogany" granite in the Classical Revival style. The main facade features six two-story Doric order piers and pilaster that surround the recessed entrance bays. The exterior also features five bronze relief sculptures by artists Edmond Amateis and Louis Slobodkin illustrating different forms of communication: from west to east, the god Mercury, jungle drums, mail, carrier pigeon, and smoke signals. The interior features eight murals executed between 1937 and 1939 by artist Kindred McLeary.

The staff here is so lovely. Never in a million years would I have thought that I would write a positive review about USPS. The staff knows most of the customers by name. Rita was so sweet and she got me in and out for a passport appointment in 7 minutes! 7!

USPS tracking information is not reliable. For days the USPS website said that it was stuck at this location. I went to another website and entered in the same tracking number and that DHL website shows that my package is in St. Louis and is expected to arrive in my city on January 18th, 2018.

Racist/ignorant/rude Staff! The hispanic lady in glasses working there this afternoon (1/12/18) was loudly boasting about her personal life to other employees-- way too comfortable on the job. but that did not warrant this review-- what did was this employee making Racially stereotypical remarks to a couple of Costumers. She openly yelled so everyone can hear and "confused" this one costumer with another costumer insinuating that they "look alike". Right, b/ all strangers who are the same ethnicity look alike. Both men were wearing completely different outfits and skin tones and sure they did not appreciate it. It might have been funny to the lady, but pretty sure she wouldn't appreciate someone else doing that to her, right? She knows she was wrong yet she didn't even apologize, just laughed. When's it ok to embarrass PAYING costumers? who wants to pay for BS? Racism/ignorance will be addressed/exposed as such on google review/yelp. every time. We'll be going to UPS down the street from now on. at least they're professional.

Very helpful and easy to work with. I needed to mail my wedding invitations internationally and the clerk helped me find the cheapest way to mail it. I went to another post office at first to send my invitations and they were very rude about it being rigid and thicker than usual! Very different experience at this post office!!

They service sucks . I wasn't home to sign for my package so I went to the post office to pick it up. I explained to the female clerk at the counter that I missed my package and I'm here to pick it up. She asked for the pink card that they normally leave at your door when you're not at home but I forgot it the pink card at home and she started to get an attitude with me because of that. I asked to speak to the manager he came out took my imformation went back inside to look for the package. He couldn't find it. He said it still on the truck and the guy didn't come back yet. He told me to come back the next day and how he's the make sure to put it aside for me. I went back the next day to pick it up and he claim he couldn't find it. What a waste of time
