For 60 years now, Romana and Chuck Primus along with their family staff at Whaling City Motors have been proudly serving new England. Romana's father, Sigmund Strochlitz, established Whaling City Ford in 1957 in downtown New London. In 1966, the dealership moved to its present location at Broad and Coleman Streets.
Mr. Strochlitz became a well-known public figure because of his extensive activities on behalf of the local hospital and other civic and charitable agencies. His genuinely warm greeting on cable TV commercials, "Come in. I'd like to meet you," prompted people to come in to the dealership to say hello. People also began stopping him on the street and at the supermarket to introduce themselves. Mr. Strochlitz loved to chat with customers, and he established Whaling City as a friendly, open, easy-going place of business that focuses on the needs of its customers.
Chuck and Romana follow Mr. Strochlitz's lead. They work to make Whaling City a place where customers enjoy their visits and receive the highest level of automotive service.
Down through the years, Whaling City has sold more new Ford cars and trucks than any other dealership in the area and has won numerous awards for customer service.
In March 2008, Whaling City expanded its operations by acquiring Lincoln, Mercury and Mazda from the former New London Motors. The auto group now brings the same level of friendly sales and service envisioned by Mr. Strochlitz to these new brands.
So stop in and say hello any time. Our staff will be more than happy to chat with you. Who knows, we might even talk about great deals on great cars!
