Without exaggeration, Jim Allen and his highly professional staff are one of the best companies I have ever dealt with! I have bought many cars from Jim and have never had any issues with representation, follow up, warranty coverage, quality of vehicles or pricing! I know... that sounds too good to be true, but until you experience working with everyone there you will not know the level of expertise and professionalism. On top of all this his son Garrett operates their body and mechanical shop (at a separate location, still in Thousand Oaks). I have had many of my cars through their shop and again feel I have been served to the highest level. I am a loyal and long time client, and proud to state this!

I had brought my car into the Allen Body Shop run by Jim Allen's (owner of Allen Motors) son, Garrett, because of damage to my car (which I was looking to sell) by someone running into me, and pushing me into another car. Dealing with Garrett was great, and he suggested that instead of getting it fixed, that I take it over to his father's auto dealership to get it sold as-is. Garrett runs a separate business, and he seems very trustworthy. At first glance, things looked great. They checked my car out, we talked about price, and had fully agreed upon terms and conditions, including a contract being prepared. I brought my price down significantly, to the point that it was almost literally a steal: A $10.5k car (trade-in value) for $8.2k, and they could do the body work ($1,200 retail, $700 cash), as they had their own body shop separate from Garrett. It would have cost them less than the $700 cash to fix it, obviously. Then they asked me to leave my car there for 5 days until they could get me a check. I stated that I couldn't leave my car with them without payment (the same way all of my other vehicle transactions have ever gone), so Rick (who I was dealing with) told me to come back on Tuesday, and I could leave my car and walk out with a check. Tuesday came around and I called to bring my car in as agreed upon. It was then that Rick and Jim Allen took me for the proverbial "ride". The timeline is as follows: Jim Allen (owner) told me that they don't give people money for their cars when they leave them (his words: "That's just not the way it's done, and we never do it that way"). He said that their "accounting department" had their own hours that they don't know or have control of, so there would be no way of knowing when I would be paid (and that I shouldn't have expected to be paid at the time I handed over my car). He told me that he would have Rick call me with more information. Rick called me back and changed the deal entirely (per Jim Allen, he claimed). He said that they wouldn't take my car (which they had already checked out and agreed to), unless I took my car through insurance to get it fixed. If I did that, they would give me an additional $250, even though the quotes for repair started at $1,200. When I mentioned to him that the numbers didn't add up, he said that Jim Allen (owner) wouldn't do the deal any other way. I explained to him that I was trying to assist the person who hit me in taking care of things without insurance, and that I was willing to take the hit (going back to the original price that Allen Motors had agreed upon), and he told me that they wouldn't do it because I had "had the car for an additional 4 days, and now we're busy" (which they told me to do). Going back and forth, Rick changed his tune multiple times, giving me several different stories that didn't match up until I finally had enough and said "forget it" (after waiting 4 days for them). These guys act like a scam, and their behavior shows it to be the case. True "used car salesmen" that change their tune on the fly, even after agreements are made. Beware!

It has been six months now since I bought my '06 F-150 (~125 K miles) from Rick Wright at Allen Motors. During that time, the truck has been amazing, in fact much more so than I expected. For weeks, every time I got in it, I discovered some new bell or whistle that I hadn't noticed before. Any issues that the truck had while on the lot were taken care of by Rick to make sure that I was happy before I drove away. This included installing a new catalytic converter after the price was agreed upon. That's no small thing. And it meant a lot to me that there was absolutely no quibbling or wanting to "split the difference". While searching for a truck, I had been to several private party sellers and a few other used car lots, none of which instilled confidence. Initially, I felt that way at Allen Motors as well because when I left after seeing the truck for the first time, I wondered what was wrong with the truck. How could they sell it for that price (about 3 grand less than other trucks I looked at)? My skepticism waned, however, as the deal progressed and issues were professionally addressed. Rather than poking around Craig's List or some other site, I will look at Allen Motors inventory first whenever I am in the market for another vehicle.

Allen Motors sold a car for my in laws and acquired a new Audi A6 for me. We love our A6 and we got a great price with no hassle. Allen Motors sold my in laws old Lexus for a very fair price, we believe we got top dollar and it was trouble free. I now have them selling my Audi Q5 and buying another truck through them. They make it so easy:)

BEWARE: Jim Allen is your typical bait and switch salesman! We brought my wife's car into his shop for an estimate on fixing her side passenger mirror and left rear taillight. Jim inspected the car and then said he'd call me back the next day, because his son (who was out of the office) is the one that deals with their vendors for parts. As promised, Jim called back first thing the next day and provided me with the quote – apparently, we needed a whole new back bumper, left taillight and passenger mirror. The prices he quoted seemed fair, so I dropped the car off two days later, which is how much time he said he needed to order the bumper and taillight and get them delivered. When I asked about the price for the passenger mirror, Jim said not to worry about it since his guy “could fix it for free… no problem.” Jim called later that afternoon and said that our car was done, but his guy couldn't fix the mirror. No apology or explanation of any kind was provided. I said, “okay,” and then asked about the cost of replacing the mirror. Jim said it would be $112 with parts and labor – perfect example of bait and switch. When I arrived at his shop to look at the car, I noticed the taillight he installed had what looked like a crack on the bottom. I pointed it out to him, and he acted as if I was crazy! He failed to notice any issue with the light (despite the fact that there was a HUGE DARK line/crack/something weird across the bottom area) or agree with me that it looked different from the original one of the right side. It was ridiculous! With hesitation, Jim said he’d request a new taillight the next day and “hopefully the vendor will send out a new one.” He made it seem like a 50/50 chance as to whether they'd follow through. Also, the bumper he installed and painted wasn't properly aligned in place and the paint had some bumps that definitely needed buffing. A few days later, Jim installed the new taillight and touched up the paint. Not a perfect job, but good enough so I gave him a semi-approval. FINALLY, as I was about to leave, he said to come back in a month and he give me a “free car wash and have my guy buff out the bumper some more so the spots and bubbles go away completely.” Fast forward one month later (this past weekend): I called Jim to follow up on the car wash and buffing, and his response was, “Who are you?” I recapped our situation and he said he “didn’t remember, but if that's what I said then, ‘okay.’” The proceeded to go on about how he’s really not sure what his guy can do about the paint because it’s already been so long. I asked if he’d be in on Saturday and he “wasn’t sure” – of course when I dropped the car off on Saturday, he wasn't there…and didn’t inform anyone that I’d be coming by. I dealt with another guy who was very rude and unhelpful. When I came back two hours later, the car wasn't even clean – a few spots were wiped off the hood but that’s it since the guy said he “didn’t know he was supposed to do a full wash.” My wife and I were so annoyed that we just got in the car and left… wasn’t even worth dealing with them anymore. In conclusion, I would never recommend Allen Motors, and I hope this helps! Sorry for such a long review, but I felt the whole situation had to be explained, so you could fully understand. I'VE NEVER COMPLAINED ON YELP ABOUT A COMPANY BEFORE, BUT I COULDN'T BELIEVE WHAT WENT ON HERE, I HAD TO LET YOU ALL KNOW, SO YOU DON’T EXPERIENCE THIS!
