I was so impressed with this place! Inventive, refreshing taste in each course. Had the Bull City Bender cocktail to start, and honestly one of my top five favorite drinks I’ve ever had! Definitely recommend the Yokozuna roll, and whatever they have on special. Best sushi I’ve had in Durham!

Very nice atmosphere in a very nice part of town. We got a full sushi boat to share with 5 people, and it was more than enough, and not too pricey considering how much we all got. Definitely a great place to eat, inside or out.

Love this place, we had a great time. I was surprised how well informed the wait staff was. They accommodated my godchild & her friend. They answered all their questions & even encouraged them to be a bit adventurous. Anytime you can get two teenagers to try new things it is a win. The curry flavored calamari was great. We had an assortment of their sushi over the five times we have been, never disappointed. Oh their ramen noddles are awesome too. Oh make reservations they tend to be busy & it is easier than waiting with children.

Amazing food and atmosphere. Stopped by after attending the Zelda Symphony of the Goddesses performance at DPAC and couldn't have been more impressed. A little more on the pricey end but absolutely worth the treat and by no means unreasonable. They serve ramen and udon bowls, smaller bites for 2 to share, have a fantastic sushi selection and the food arrives fresh and delicious. The only thing more I could ask for is a wider selection of hot teas (barley tea and brown rice tea are harder to come by but are perfect with savory meals and I'd be thrilled to see either offered). Overall a lovely experience and I look forward to visiting again!

My wife and I love Basan for what it is - a slightly flawed and pricey but very tasty sushi/Japanese place. Because of the cost, we can only afford to eat here on special occasions, but their food is generally worth it. Selection is a bit narrow, I'd like to see more traditional Japanese foods and I have a hard time ordering sushi with their specialty rolls (I keep kosher, so finding rolls without shellfish and with fish with scales/fins is tough) but the ones I've had have been stellar quality. When we came in last week I ordered a chicken teryaki, which was a bit dry, but otherwise very tasty. Get the garlic rice, it's only a dollar more and it's worth it. Udon noodle soup was a little bland, needed more miso. Overall very good, not amazing, but very good.
