Story

A showcase for high-quality seasonal ingredients, Counting House celebrates North Carolina’s rich heritage of fresh seafood with menus that feature rotisserie and roasting techniques. The bar and lounge is a welcoming place to taste innovative house-made cocktails, sip aperitifs, sample local craft brews, and explore broad bourbon and wine lists. Located inside 21c Museum Hotel Durham, Counting House combines contemporary design with historic details highlighting the building’s original terrazzo floors and arched windows and rotating exhibitions of contemporary art carry over from the adjoining hotel into the restaurant space.

Service was very slow even though we had explained we had to get to the theater. Food was great but only had time for an appetizer by the time we got it. They did apologize though.

Excellent food. The service was good but not at par with the food. I believe it was because our server had too many tables and that's why it seemed to be slow. The presentation and taste of the food was really good. The restrooms are worth checking out and are really cool.

Very good food with amazing service. Hip restaurant with a cool vibe. Creative meals served by a very attentive waitstaff who know their stuff.

The atmosphere is amazing. They have a beautiful lounge with comfortable couches and brilliant art. The drinks are creative and the wine and bourbon list is extensive. Take a walk into the dining room and you are met with friendly smiles and exquisite southern hospitality. Sit for a meal and you will experience a team driven waitstaff with the desire to accommodate your every needs, with their YES attitude. Be taken into palette overload with the out of this world combinations of dishes and spices, while beholding dishes that are Picasso'est in appearance and as satisfying as your grandmother's Sunday dinner.
