Story

"Who do you know wants to buy a car?" There is hardly anyone in southeastern Wisconsin who hasn't heard that question.

Ernie von Schledorn, a native of West Germany, was drafted into the army in 1944 and spent three months as a prisoner of war in Remagen. He jokingly describes himself as a "war bride", in as much as he married his American sweetheart while she was working for the United States Department of State in Frankfurt.
In 1952, Ernie arrived in Milwaukee with $14. Looking for a job, he tried the breweries without success, but was able to obtain a job as a roofer at 90 cents an hour. After three months, he was delighted to find a job as a used car salesman at Edwards Motor Company."
In 1955 von Schledorn joined Lou Ehlers Buick in Shorewood and within two years became the No. 1 Buick salesman in America.

Ernie von Schledorn started his own dealership in 1959 at 400 E. Capitol Drive, Milwaukee, which he operated until 1966. In 1966 he built and opened a new dealership n Menomonee Falls. We were connected with this dealership through the Costco auto program which has specific guidelines for communication and pricing. The expectation is a 24 hour response so when I hadn't heard anything in 2 days I contacted them. The sales person told me they hadn't received a notification so I gave him our confirmation number. It took another two days for them to get back to me with pricing. When I asked about the delay, I was only told they were "busy". The price they quoted me was not based on the Costco pricing guidelines and the sales person told me that the car wasn't in the program. He also informed me that this was a desirable car and they weren't really willing to deal much on it. A few days later I got a call from the Costco auto program to see how my experience was. They were able to confirm that the car is in the program and that the pricing should be based on their guidelines. A short time later I got a call from the sales person saying they had received a customer complaint. The implication was that I had initiated a complaint about them. The salesperson reiterated to me that the car wasn't listed in their program and that they weren't willing to deal more on it. I wasn't sure about the purpose of the call since they weren't changing anything. My impression is they wanted me to feel badly about the complaint. We have just purchased the same car from another dealership for a much more competitive price. We have no intention to bring it to the Ernie von Schledorn for service or to purchase any future cars from them.

Don’t do it! Purchased new 17 Passat less than two months ago. Day two it was in the shop for a brake issue. Was told something got stuck to the rotor. A week or so later in the shop again for a loud CONSTANT rattle in the door panel. They said it was coming from behind the radio and they replaced a part. Rattle not fixed. I know it’s a cheaper car but there should not be constant rattles after less than 1000 miles. I brought it back into the shop last week. I had the rattle issue, as well as a lumbar adjuster not working (has never worked), and some electronics issue (radio shuts off randomly, car turned itself off once after being started and parking sensors coming on randomly while driving. They fixed the lumbar issue but before I even left the parking lot I could tell the rattle wasn’t taken care of. Also on the drive home on the interstate the parking sensors were going off when a car cut in front of me. Keep in mind this car has 2500 miles on it. I must say Matt in service has been good with communication and they have given me loaners on two occasions. My main complaint comes from Gabe in sales and the sales managers. I’ve emailed both and my emails go ignored or they get forwarded to service. Never has anyone from sales contacted me. I was interested in trading it in but they don’t care. They don’t stand behind their product at all. They sure were quick to reply when I was wanting to buy a car though! Also my paperwork was messed up multiple times on day of purchase. They sold me the wrong car and also had my trade in amount lower than what was agreed upon. Just an aggravating experience in general. I usually deal with Toyota and have never had any issues. My business will be going back to them ASAP. I had service contact me today making sure everything was fixed. I said it was not. She said bring it on in. I don’t have time to continue bringing it in. It’s rather ridiculous.

Easy to work with and not pushy. Our salesman Chris is an old-school car guy who was helpful and attentive via email and phone as we narrowed things down. The finance/extended warranty process was a little more of the stereotypical car dealership experience, but they have to do it, so you have to cut them some slack. This dealership was recommended by my VW mechanic, and I would second the recommendation.

Service Department as a total is terrible. People are rude, disrespectful, and will lie to you. To top it off their work is sloppy and often times incomplete. What good would it do to complain, so your car can get worse treatment? I think not.

I bought a VW Passat this past March. It was my first car buying experience and they were truly very helpful. I am not happy however, with the experience I am now having almost 5 months after purchasing my car. I bought my car during the $1,000 cash back offer and was told that I would receive it within 6-8 weeks. I am still waiting to see that money. I have reached out to the dealership and salesperson multiple times in the past few months and have been lucky to even get one response.
