The park is located in the city of Marble, and just outside the adjacent city of Calumet, both in Itasca County, Minnesota. The park provides access to fossil material exposed by mining from the Cretaceous era Coleraine Formation.Flora and faunaConservationists have grown back trees and plants to revegetate this area scarred by the effects of open pit mining. The landscape includes grouse, deer, coyotes, timber wolves, and black bears. The most impressive excitement is the return of raptors including eagles, peregrine falcons, and hawks that come back to hunt and nest in this park.
