Contrary to what you may believe not all Jacks 99 Cent Stores are equal. This one is a mid-block ground floor-through with a representative sampling of the types of merchandise you would expect to find in Herald Square all on one floor. While truly 99 Cent items have all but evaporated in recent years you can still pick up a lot of close-out items and standard care at bargain prices. The staff are knowledgeable and helpful. And the goods are thoughtfully arranged. There are also things sold here you have never seen before or thought existed. The atmosphere is just right for browsers who simply want to walk around and take an unhurried look. Happy hunting, and don't be afraid to ask if you still don't see what you're looking for.

Always worth the visit, though most items are way over 99c, some things are under. Try and price match as some things are cheaper on Amazon. In general, good service, quality and choice, especially for NYC. Wish there were more stores like this!

Variety = jack's! Truly ideal STOP for: tourist (esp. W/ kitchens or 4gotn items); on the way home parents with school trips in the AM, guests, weekend getaway... you get my drift & NYS Lottery Games! This site had clean aisles, & stocked shelves

99 cents and UP should be the name as I had a hard time finding anything for 99 cents but the selection is hard to beat from housewares to food to toys and school supplies the prices are good but it adds up quickly. Check the frozen food case the deals there are hard to beat.

The store on 40th street is okay. The selection of items at this location is not the greatest and the store on 32nd street has more of a variety of food and household items. I also find that some of their items can be found for less money elsewhere. I can get better prices at Deals, Dollar tree and Family dollar on certain items i.e. paper goods. Also check for expiration dates. Food gets marked cheaper if it's expired or at it's expiration date....
