Story

Colorful fluted folds of white, pink, red and brown cliffs are the result of wind and rain eroding soft materials from beneath hard lava flow layers. This dramatic scenery has been viewed over thousands of years by Native Americans on trade routes, famous settler families such as the survivors of the Death Valley trek and the Illinois Jayhawkers, then gold miners, and in more recent times, in hundreds of movies and commercials.
After wet winters, the park’s floral displays are stunning. Camp beneath the cliffs, or explore the visitor center after a picnic. Miles of primitive roads can be explored by foot, off-highway vehicle, horse, and bike. Call (661) 946-6092 for park regulations and more information, or visit http://www.parks.ca.gov/?page_id=631.

A good state park for the area. I would say to definitely stop and take a short look around. Not to many trails or roads to drive on in the park. Best for a day trip or just a short adventure.

Love this state park. What a jem! The visitor center is really good. I would recommend taking advantage of the presentations they have on the weekends. Campsites are really good, but they do not take reservations and are all first come first serve. If you do show up here on a weekend, make sure to get here early on friday to get a better campsite.

This park is great for the young and the "old" ! You can see a lot of the park from you car....and never walk. And if you like to walk now you will see some really great formations that are unique here from blazing red to white as snow.

My kids loved the place. If they could, they would've stayed there forever. The rocks are high, but you can still climb most of them. The views from the top are breathtaking.
