If you live in this area and you are not training at this gym you are missing out. I am visiting from New York and I can tell you one of the most exciting parts about my visit is training in this gym. They have every piece of equipment you can ask for regardless of what your goals are. The staff are super friendly and the environment is inspiring. Do yourself a favor and check out this gym. I guarantee you, you'll love it!! First thing I am going to do when I get home is canceling my gym and looking for a gym like this. The Retro by me doesn't come close. They really did a great job at this location. Enjoy!

BEWARE !!!! If you are thinking about joining retro , DONT. You will get billed multiple times and will get the run around when you call. Some of the training staff aren't even certified trainers they just happen to be buddies with the owner! Yea that same owner that owned rapid fitness! He just hides at the downtown location or busy spending business money on personal expenses, or "supplements". Hence why employees checks bounce on a regular bases ALL of the good staff members have left ,Oh and if they say they have fired said trainer , I'd check out the downtown location or Durham since they are all owned by the same guy. Equipment stays broken ! Lock your stuff up if you do join ! It will probably get gone ! Best advice is to visit other gyms in the area , you may pay more somewhere else but you get better quality of a gym and a better helpful staff .

Horrible billing and cancellation policy. They only allow cancellation (even after the one year locked-in period) via letter. I hand delivered my letter to the associate and six months later I was still being billed.

TL,DR: long time member screwed by Retro over a couple of bucks, had to settle with a collection agency because of Retro's deceptive practice. If they did it to me, think they wont do it to you? I regret that I must give Retro Fitness a one star review after 3 great years and one mediocre year of membership. If I wrote this two years ago it would have been 4 stars; one year ago it would have been 3 stars, but unfortunately today it is 1. This location used to be Rapid Fitness, and as Rapid it was a great gym. When "Retro" took over, they packed the gym with meatheads and doubled the traffic during peak hours. I know it's a business and they make more money that way, but it's kind of a bummer to go from no wait to 5-10 minute wait for equipment during peak. The major hit to Retro's rating occurred when I tried to cancel my membership. I was leaving the state in a few months and hesitated to resign my contract here, but did so on the manager's assurance it was cancellable if I moved more than 10 miles from a Retro location. I did move, more than 10 miles, came back to the location, and showed the employee my new lease and forwarding address (which I also gave to the US post office). I was told by the employee that the contract had been cancelled and my obligation to pay released. Lo and behold, five months later I find that my "account" has been sent to a collection agency on the allegation that I owe $140. This mail and any other past notices were mailed to my parents address (WTF?) instead of my current address. The only fathomable reason I can see that this occurred is 1, Retro is trying to commit fraud, 2, its employee was so incompetent they could not complete basic functions like adjust contract, or 3, so mix of both. Because I don't have the time to fight a legal battle against Retro and its gross negligence/intentional fraud, I had to settle the debt to protect my credit. Even if this mess wasn't intentional, the uselessness of its employee and the impact on my life still earned Retro a one-star. I went here for 4 years, always paid on time, never made a mess or a hassle, and they f*cked me. Think they won't f*ck you too? don't risk it

I'm unfortunately no longer a member here due to moving too far to attend the gym anymore and billing issues BUT I highly recommend the training program, especially Carly Horrell! She always made sure I was taken care of and met all my health needs. Even if I was having a bad day where I wasn't feeling good she would run and get me a banana or water to spike up my energy. Even after I moved she offered to accommodate a few days and times a week that were mine so I could make the commute to come see her. I've always dealt with issues not being able to gain weight and over the course of six months with her I had gained 20lbs. She's amazing and always had the ability to hold great conversation with me during our sessions. She not only showed me what to do but WHY I was doing it, what muscles I was using and why..it was very educational. I now attend Planet Fitness for convenience reasons but not a day goes by where I'm not finding myself using every technique Carly taught me!
